I just wanted to say hello and show you all a few pics of my new stingray 5. I have been lurking for a couple of weeks and thought I should go ahead and register. Anyway, I found this bass at my local guitar center. The moment I walked in and saw it I knew I had to have it even before playing it and the other 3 SR5's they had in stock. As you can see in the pictures it is copper sparkle paint with a sort of washed copper looking pickguard. I had never seen any other stingray that looked like this. Also I don't see the color or pickguard as options on the website. Maybe you all could help me out with some info on the color and pickguard combo. My reciept says this: stingray 5 RW WC PG COPP.

I absolutely love the look, feel and tone of this bass. I also have a Warwick Corvette 6 with a bubinga body and wenge neck, and a Lakland skyline 55-02 with the bartolini pickups. This bass compliments the line up perfectly and now I feel like I can cover almost all the basses (tone wise).

Thanks for your help and I look forward to talking with you. Sorry for the long post. As always, the pics don't really do it justice. They never look as good as the bass does in person.

Hey now! Velcome to the board!

That thar is one lovely SR, buddy! I saw a SR4 with those color options at a GC a while ago. It's not there anymore. But it was a sight to behold!

Rock on!

Yep, I think it is called copper sparkle. Now discontinued.

Nice looking instrument.

That is the ugliest color combo I have ever seen.

Send it to me immediately so that I may hide its horrific face from the world forever.

Woo, man, that's a NICE one. Welcome!

Welcome to the board!

That's one nice looking bass. Too bad it ended up in OK. (Sorry, I couldn't help it. Too many years as a Texan.)

Do you have photos of your other basses? I'd like to see them too.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I definately think this is going to be a keeper, sorry. Like I said earlier, I really love this bass. It feels so solid and the build quality is flawless. I'll try to post some pics of the other basses tonight. Deep down I've always wanted to have a stingray, that tone in undeniable. I just couldn't argue with the 15mo. no interest sale that guitar center was putting on.

Rovrey pics you got there! I'm thinking the camera doesn't do that pickguard justice.

Thanks for the pics. The only Lakland that I've had the opportunity to play was a 4 string Skyline. The only problem is the guy that owns it has it tuned down a full step and uses a capo!!! On top of that, he has a SWR Super Redhead that he has no clue how to set up properly. Maybe I'll get to play one that's not screwed up one of these days. Hell, maybe I'll get his gig. I'd like to play with the band he plays with but he's been there since the inception and they don't feel right about firing him. I keep telling them how much better they would be with a good bassist but I've yet to convince them to let him go.

He plays bass with a capo? Oh my god that's hilarious! And he uses a Lakland? For the love of everything that is holy, get that bass away from him right now! Do not pass go, do not collect $200. It looks as if someone has way too much cash before his talent has caught up. A capo on the bass? That's kickin' my butt.

I about lost it the first time I saw it. The guy's an engineer so he got creative. He claims he uses it to shorten the scale of the bass. He uses a capo on all 4 strings on the second fret to play in EADG, then he has another one that only covers three strings to play in DADG. Then other times he drops the four string capo to the first fret to play in EbAbDbGb. I picked up that bass and really struggled trying to play it with every thing up two frets. It was just really strange. He has no clue as to what a bass should sound like.

I just LUV that copper sparkle! And what kind of pickguard is that? Washed copper? Anyone know if that's an aftermarket p/g? You indeed have a unique Ray - one that I'm not envious of a bit!:(

Yea, the lakland has a very thick bottom end kind of similar to a good P-bass but also has the punch of a stingray with that bartolini humbucker. It has a really massive sound. Also, I've played on the US laklands as well, and if you are picky you might be able to tell a slight difference. Overall though, Lakland did a really great job of making sure that the skylines are quality instruments. I'm very happy with it.

The deal with the band will probably work itself out over time. I'm sure that something will happen to make them realize that they'd be better off with you in the band

Well I'm wondered the same thing. I bought it brand new plastic coverings and all at GC a couple of weeks ago. The salesman said they had only had it out for a few weeks. I'm hoping someone on this board will know.

If you look at the picture below, it seems like the guy on the right has the same color/pickguard combo as mine just on an SR4. Maybe it is some unofficial limited run color combo.

clicky

Thanks again for the compliments. The sad thing is the wanting never stops. I think its a sickness most all of us have. Now if there was only a way to explain it to the wives!!
