Can you guys help me identify my bass? year, etc... and how can I find a fair market price for it? I bought it several years ago with an Eden "David" Metro. It's an awesome sounding rig I just don't get to play much anymore (3 girls under 9). I have someone locally that wants it but I don't know what would be a fair price to ask. thank you for the help and if this is the wrong forum for this question I apologize.

thanks.

Post your serial # in the "sticky" forum at the top of the page - the gang is VERY helpful in ID'ing your instrument.

In honor of Abraham Lincoln, whose birthday is coming up in two weeks, I'll give you four score and seven bucks for it.

Cash money!

:D

Seriously, nice bass...Trans Red/White (aka Big Poppa Chevy Super Sport Barbecue :p), which is a great color combo. Looks to be in mint condition, too. I'm guessing it's worth somewhere in the vicinity of 9 Franklins, or maybe 9 Franklins and a Grant. But I don't really know, not having done research.

Best way in my experience to check real value is to see what mint SR5s are going for on da Bay and price accordingly.

Failing that, a good rule of thumb is 2/3 of new street price, unless there's something really special about it.

Regardless, never forget that the value of the instrument has nothing whatsoever to do with what you think it's worth. It's what your customer thinks it's worth that counts.

Hope this helps somewhat despite not containing any actual answers.

That might be trans-orange.

850-950, I'd say, unless:

a. you find someone who really loves orange, then 1K
b. you find that everyone hates orange, then keep it.

thanks for the responses guys. It's definitley Red and it is in Mint condition, along with my Eden Metro. I absolutely love the sound these 2 produce but just don't get to play enough to justify keeping them. Thanks again for the info.

My advice: KEEP IT!!! That's a beautiful bass. Not only will you get the enjoyment of having it around to play but you'll be showing your daughters the importance of music!

oh, I know I'll regret selling it, we always do don't we? But someone more deserving should be enjoying this quality instrument, not a hack like me that only plays once in a blue moon...

got the serial if anyone can help:

E18828

what's it mean? I'm searching as we speak... :)

The serial number itself doesn't have a date or any info hidden in it. But luckily I can look that up for you!

It was done on 11/09/00 and the color is Trans Red
Good Luck!

bragging rights

Hey Purs,

I sure hope you get to keep that beautious looking SR5 ... trans red, rosewood, white prloid, sounds great ... looks stunning ... she's a keeper and your girls have superior bragging rights at school "OUr Dad plays a Stingray 5 , one of the finest and most legendary MusicMan basses of all time ... I sez, "don't deprive them that honour by trading that wonderful instrument for mere money to someone who may not really appreciate it for it's true lenendary status in the world of basses and music ... this is said by someone who lives with regrets for selling off precious instruments in the past, but of course, it's your bass and your call, and I wish you luck and hope you'll be guided by your heart...

Welcome to the best forum in the world andall the bass, to you and your girls ... maybe one of them is tomorrow's luckiest lady SR5 players:)

the really important things

Hey Purs,

Don't pay any mind to me, I'm sure you're being guided by your heart in thinking about the girls ... I wish you a good price and hassle free deal and I'm sure as things go in this world that you'll have a fine bass in your arms again one day and maybe even another SR5, or other fine and legendary MusicMan and I have every confidence that Big Poppa is doing his level best to ensure that EBMM MusicMan basses will be around for years to come and who knows, maybe the girls will chip in and order one up as a graduation gift for you ;):)and they'll really have bragging rights about what a fine Dad you've been :)

And, if one of them wants to play bass one day, you have the honour of coaching her about getting a job at Mickey Dees and buying a new bass the hard, old fashioned way, the way that Dad did it ... life seems to be about making sacrifices ... and perhaps the regrets I have about sold instruments are because I wasn't thinking straight in the first place and didn't properly contemplate my options and sacrifices clearly at those times

Good Luck and best to you and your gals,:)
all the bass,
/PL:)
