I just got a sting ray off of ebay today. Claims to be in "Mint" condition with no dings etc. Comes with a hardshell case. I purchased it for $699. Does anyone have a feel for the value of this?

I really wasn't too concerned about price. In my previous life I played bass in many different bands, from rock to new-wave to pop. I previously owned a rick 4001 and a p-bass. I decided to treat myself as I delve back into playing. I have always admired the sting ray and it's tone and playability. So, I am the proud new owner of a transparent blue SR4.

Also, can I figure out the basses vintage some how.

Much obliged for any feedback.

first of all, 700 bucks for a stingray is not bad at all! ur lucky, and i can't answer the year of you insturment, but i know who can! Rod Trussbroken seems to know his stuff, he's posted allot of things that have to do with tht topic. He's the guy to talk to.

If it's pre-EB then the price you paid was definitely more then fair. If it's an EB one then you still paid a good price assuming it's in the condition claimed.

The used SR market, esspecially 4 strings, is flooded, so the prices can be pretty low.

There are several forum goes that can answer your question on production date. If you post the serial# located on the back of the bass, they should be able to help you. EB has a good record of the production dates of all their basses, although if it's pre-eb it might be a little more difficult, although you can get a fairly good estimate (what year it was made, as oppposed to exact dates for EB ones...).

Thanks

Thanks for the direction on the year. The bass, by the way is blue pearl and it is the 3 eq model + an original eb hsc

If it's a three band EQ, it's not a pre-EB Stingray. With the modern basses, the moderators can give you a date of manufacture if you'll post the serial number.

you might want to start a new post to ask the question, though. Sometimes they miss stuff that's buried at the bottom of threads.

Thanks

I'll start a new thread with serial number as soon as I have the bass in hand and can get the serial number from it.
