Hey all,

Just took delivery of my second SR5... a 2006 HH (thanks Ted!), and I love it. It covers all the ground my 2000 SR5 H doesn't and then some. One thing I noticed pretty much right away is that the neck on the '06 doesn't feel quite like my '00. To me, it feels thinner front to back comparatively speaking. I'm thinking it could be a number of factors... possibly the amount I've played the '00 and the moisture from sweat and humidity that may have affected it somehow, perhaps it's a matter of a maple on maple neck ('00) vs. a rosewood on maple ('06), or perhaps my mind is simply deceiving me. I didn't hear anything about the neck thickness changing bewtween these 2 years, but it's not to say it wasn't announced if something did indeed happen.

I simply ask out of curiosity. My '00's neck is like home to me. On the flip side, I like how the '06's neck feels thinner, and, in my mind, faster. Can anyoen set me straight?

I doubt this has any bearing on this but I did a couple of neck treatments per the FAQ (I used 1600 grit sandpaper and steel wool on the back of the neck). This wouldn't make a noticeable thickness change imho, but it *definitely* sped up the neck after the treatment. The last one I did was about three months ago and it was still holding strong when I sent it to you.

Thanks for the Bongo dude

I've played a few different SR5s (including two of my own) and they all feel a little different. Isn't the final neck finishing/shaping done by hand? If so, this would account for the differences from neck to neck.

I think a lot of the subjective differences we sometimes feel in necks are due to string height and neck relief, personally.

I'm unaware of any change in neck shapes during the mentioned time frame, but setup differences can make necks seem thicker/thinner/etc.

IMO.
