I expect my 2006 LE HH Ray within the next few weeks (black/gold). This will be my only bass. I'm already thinking of #2. I'm looking for a work horse/mojo bass that I can use without worrying about it too much ... outside/around the campfire type thing. Maybe something used but with no structural/playability problems. Something in the $500 - $600 range.

I would like it to be different than the 2006 LE Ray ... maybe Honet Burst, maple board, HS or H w/piezzo. I'm thinking a used Ray or a SUB versus a Sterling or Bongo. I think I would be better off with a used Ray versus an OLP-type thing.

So ... what do you think?

Maybe you've got what I'm looking for F/S, especially with the 2007's coming. Just kicking tires right now, but would be interested in at least figuring out the next in line.

Well, with the recent EBMM price increase I'd jump now before the used EBMM prices also raise which they "should" given the nature of basic supply and demand economics...model & color season to taste.

Your HH Stingray will cover everything any single H Stingray will do unless you get a 2 band.

If you're looking for different I'd get a Bongo.

I'm not ready for a Bongo yet. I'm sure it sounds great and all, I just don't quite get the look of it and prefer the classic Stingray styling. I see Phatduck has created a new thread for basses for sale ... maybe something will come up there that hits the right note (so to speak). I suggested this earlier but most said they would not like to have classified thread (?) http://www.ernieball.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18229&highlight=classified

I would encourage you to check out a Sterling HS. It seems to be the favoured Sterling (plus it's BP's fave) on these boards - along with the Stingray HH for the SRs, and the Bongo H.

But +1 to getting a Bongo - but if you're not ready for that yet, definately check out the Sterling - best production neck in the history of, er, necks :D

It will be tough to find any EBMM in the used range for $500-$600 ,unless you are a diligent ebay watcher, or look for instruments in less than great condition. Generally you are going to look at $700-$900 for stingrays.

That being said, the SUB may not be a bad choice, for something that you dont want to have to worry about too much.

I would get more money and get a Sterling though :) Beware though, side effects include: the sudden desire to sell your stingray HH for another sterling.

I'm kinda leaning toward a used Sterling HS, Honeyburst, Maple Board. Now, I'm a bit concerned about the narrower neck on the Sterling, mostly because I've got fairly large hands (etc. ;)). I'm also not sure about a 5-string ... it would add that extra dimension, however I've never played one ... and I'm not an advanced player (yet). I will raise my sights on the price range ... thanks again all.

Wooo good choice :) I luuurve honeyburst - not too keen on maple necks tho ;) I honestly don't think you'd find the neck a problem - as long as you give your hands time to adjust. I've got fairly big hands (for a girl anyway!) and it took me a little while to get used to it as I was accustomed to basses with thicker necks.

But if you don't get on with it, you could flog it for a fiver or a Bongo :) With MM, you've ALWAYS got options! :D
