NGD And A Question: Blue Steve Morse Y2D with Floyd Rose

Hey guys,

Funny enough, after lusting over the Axis and Steve Morse model for a few years now, I finally got one. I went in looking for some sort of Ibanez RG... But saw this beauty hanging over on the wall, exactly what I would've spec'd out had I been given the chance. Picked her up, felt the neck and that was that. The great pickups and tone helps too

And my question... Has anyone ever tried putting Dimarzio Cliplocks on these? Would I have to use different screws or would the screws already in the guitar work? Also, would Schallers need new screws? I don't want to mess with the holes.

The back plate was also signed by Steve a few months ago when they came to town, but I put that away

Very nice!!! Congrats on an amazing guitar my friend. Y2D's are amazing all the way around. As for the clip locks, I think you would have to use the screws that come with the strap/clip lock. I use the schallers and have no problem using the original screw. I prefer the schallers to anything else out there.

Thanks! That's good, I was actually leaning towards using Schallers with a regular strap, so I'll likely go that route.

Congrats, very nice guitar! What profile is the neck on a Y2D? Considering you were looking for a RG, which has a rather flat profile.

I think the radius is 12 inches. I was initially, but I played the Y2d after a few RG's and it was much more comfortable. I'm used to Strats so that might have been it. The Y2D neck is somewhat slim, not RG thin but a nice size.

I love the fact that MM is recessing the bridge!
btw:I only use Schallers on my guitars as well with the same screws the guitar came with.

you don´t see the de-purple-burst colored Y2Ds often. most people go for a purple-sunset or tobacco burst, the de-purple-burst is such a great color on this guitar.

Great Y2D!

I´ve installed cliplocks on my 3 guitars, and always used the original screws. They´re the same as the ones that come with the cliplock.

So far, so good. They´re amazing straps.

Amazing catch my friend, especially that it has a floating floyd tremolo. Always wonder, why don't they all come like this?! Even Mr. Morse has on almost all his guitars that have floyd on them! Need a response !!!

I decided to get Schaller locks for this one so that the cliplock clip doesn't dig into the guitar in the case.

As for the Floyd, I just wanted a locking trem. I like metal (and Van Halen) and all those whammy tricks. I figure if you can get used to the string changes and setup side of things, there isn't much of a downside besides unison bends and some would say different tone. I've seen a bazillion guys get good tone with Floyd guitars so I'm not worried

Good call on the schallers. That's also why I went with those...I want to avoid any unnecessary dings and scratches, unless I put them there by playing the heck out of it .

And I totally agree with you on the floyd. I dont know why some people are scared of them. It's actually not that big of a deal at all if you use common sense and a little research and some practice. And same thing about the tone thing...guitar players in general ARE such freakin wining bunch of wankers. I've heard tons of players that have great tone with a floyd and I've heard tons of players with hardtails or vintage trems that sound like a tin can. Such a subjective thing there.

Awesome guitar! Did you get it from Steve's? I bought a signed a purple sunset Y2D a few months ago and that one looks familiar. These guitars play and sound so great I wanted to buy both!

Beautiful Y2D dude. Fantastic. I enjoy Floyds as well. The fine tuners alone make them worthwhile for me, let alone the rest of the benefits.
