Hi all,

I had a few balls and posted here some years ago, but was temporarily seduced by other brands. I tried a friends Silo a couple of months ago, and had forgot just how much I miss the EBMM design.

So, after a few weeks staking out the FS boards, and I bagged myself a very plain, but very lovely black Silhouette Special, SSS, maple board, with trem.

Firstly, a massive thanks to FSmith (Fred) for being such a great person to buy from and to get to know. He was the perfect seller, and even when the couriers sent the thing to the wrong country, he stepped in and helped me out. Thank you Fred! If anyone is wavering over his stunning Reflex up for sale...just pull the trigger!

I have barely stopped playing this guitar since it arrived. There is just something about a neck single coil and a maple board that makes life that bit better. I love the neck and middle pickups but I think I may swap the bridge out for a single sized humbucker, for a bit more grunt. Any suggestions on a suitable pickup please? I have very MOR tastes, classic rock and the like.

Looking forward to hanging here again!!

Welcome back Ricman.

Fred is just ace - he went beyond just being helpful with me. I mean he went A LOT beyond just being helpful...

I'm kinda seduced by the Silo too. I may visit the States in the next 3 months, and who knows what will come back with me????

Thanks Tollie, good to be back.

Hi Spud, yeah the Silo Special has really grabbed me. I liked the 24 fret Silhouette, buf the neck profile was a little too full for my tastes. The Silo Sp fits me like a glove.

Bridge pickup suggestions still welcome!

Dimarzio makes a Tone Zone S that would fit. I'm thinking about a full size TZ or a Transition in my Silo Spec.

And for the record my Silo spec has taken over almost all of the playing time in the last few months since I got it. Killer guitars!

The Axis(s) and the AL aren't going anywhere... But they are a little left out right now. Bonded quick with the Silo and almost wishing I had gone the silo spec route a long time ago!

Im a silo special guy, and I would recommend the transition in the bridge highly, sounds great clean and dirty, just get a guard with a HSS cut and put a transition in there, for a little more grunt I have a Duncan distortion and a suhr Aldrich in others...

Nice to see the Devon flag again!

Thanks Kev....I can't play the guitar but I can drive a tractor! Or not.....

Thanks for the suggestions re full size humbuckers guys, but I want to go for a single size hum, easier and cheaper. What I want is a pup that won't blow the neck and middle away. The single sized tone zone may be the answer....also considering the SD cool rails. I'm guessing the hot rails will be too, well, hot.

Hey that Silo spec was mine.. Seriously.. I traded it to mr. Fred (like yall said, Fred is the man, great seller and awesome person) miss that neck single coil and maple neck :/ I recorded a lot of stuff with that guitar, one of the best, if not the best single coil guitar I've ever recorded, and the neck was just amazing.. Glad your enjoying it my friend... Congrats...

Hi Jorge Ven. ..that's cool...did you buy it new? Nice to have some provenance!

Were your recordings commercial or just for yourself?

Pics?? Also, I just modified my silo special(HSS). Suhr DSH+ in the bridge, and Dimarzio Air Norton in the neck. They are both wonderful compliments to a great instrument.

Thanks for all the kind words and suggestions guys, settled on a dimarzio chopper to give me the extra kick. Ordered last night, so once it's in I'll let you have my thoughts for what their worth.

Digging this guitar so much. Isn't it amazing how the ebmms necks just feel more "you" the more you play them.

Love love love it.
