This is the end of this story:
http://forums.ernieball.com/music-m...crazy-about-but-value-trade-another-ball.html

So I was able to sell a couple guitars that I wasn't really in love with and picked up a new JPXI from Marty at Danvers, Massachusetts Guitar Center. He was personable and got me a great deal. You can check him out here:

I am very happy with my decision and glad it all worked out. This is the best guitar I've ever had. Thanks to EBMM for making the best guitars on Earth!

I've only had the XI about twelve hours so I can't really say specifically what I like of one over the other. They're two of the best guitars on earth though so splitting hairs is unnecessary at this point. I'll buy a barolo JP the moment it has a three way and the flat radius ;D
Honestly though, that barolo is my favorite EBMM color. Drooool... From a player's point of view though I couldn't justify giving up the simplicity and ease of use of the three way for that five way blade. I also wanted the fingerboard radius to match between my two guitars and lastly make sure I got steel frets. How I want a barolo JP with black hardware though...

I've been going through the exact same dilemma, though I went the other way: I picked up a new jpx (it has stainless steel frets and the new tremolo block). Now I'm not sure and think I should have picked up a JPXI.

Let me know if you want to swap!

Hey man I'm sure that's a great guitar. I didn't know they had the new trem plate now. I don't think I could stand switching between the three and five way though. If I were you I would have zero buyer's remorse. Sounds like you got an amazing, new and improved JPX! Congrats!

The 5 way isn't so bad. Plus it gives you one extra position. I do prefer the 3 way as well, however.

Congrats on the new guitar! It looks sick.

Can you tell a difference between the alder back and the basswood back at all?

It certainly isn't a night and day difference. If I had to characterize them though I'd say that the alder has a slightly sweeter, more airy tone whereas the basswood feels more focused and direct. I hope that makes sense. Both are excellent.
