Finally got my Candy red Luke 1 Reissue, Started the process in November 2012, ordered in January 2013, Arrived 3 days ago, finally unboxed it and opened it up today, (the guitar arrived on the same day as the birth of my second son). Set it up and its a monster player for sure. Just like I hoped. I'm absolutely loving the heck out of it.

When I found out that EBMM was reissuing these I immediately tried to get one to replace my luke 1 original that I had in the 90's, but they were not available in the states. Luckily they made the Luke 1 Sledge available here so I ordered it immediately sight unseen, (best guitar I have ever owned bar none). After getting the Sledge and completely being blown away at its perfect match for my hands I knew I had to get another reissue luke 1 due to the limited availability and uncertainty of whether I would ever be able to get another one. Today is a great day for me! This guitar is awesome! These reissues are in my opinion better than the originals.

Sincere thanks and ultimate gratitude to all at EBMM that helped me get this bad boy.
Few pics below, last 3 are from a cell phone:

Cheers,

Tom

Beautiful, candy red is such a great finish. I wish the floyd was an option on all ebmm models.

Totally agree about the floyd. These lukes are amazing with floyds.
These are cell phone pics and the guitar's finish looks even better than in these pictures.

Awesome! Congrats with the birth of your son! And congrats with the purchase
of this great Luke 1 reissue :)

Thank you very much sir.

Cheers,

Tom

that's a beauty
Thanks,
It really is a beautiful guitar, I am going to take some better pictures with a real camera to show off the paint in the next few days. Plays like a monster too.

Congrats on the birth of you second son, Tom...did you name him Luke?

Tollie,

Thanks very much. Not Luke, (although that would have been cool), Jonathan is his name.

Congrats, that's a good looking guitar! The bra ain't that bad either... :D

What bra? That's my pick holder, lmao!!!!

Hehehehehehe, was wondering who was going to mention that. I was so tired when I posted the pic I didn't think to crop it out, but after seeing it I figured, ahh what the heck!

Cheers,

Tom

Pearl red is such a nice color! Or is this one officially called candy red? Looking at the pics, it's really the same color as you can see on Lukes Los Lobotomys DVD....which can't be said about the blue one, which looks better (IMO) on the Los Lobotomys DVD, much darker, like this kind of red. Congrats!

Thanks, Sexy is a good word for this color...spot on in fact. Good call!

I am waiting for the EBMM DOB thread to indicate the color, but I believe it is "called" candy red, that is what is indicated on the shipping label from EBMM. Looks a bit more 'red' and less burgandy than my old Luke 1 original. If I am not mistaken I read in a thread that they hand mixed the original Luke 1 paint, and they no longer do that. I actually prefer the red color of the reissue, even if it's the same color. LOL

Thumbs way up!
Cheers and thanks!

According to some very old literature (see pic) that came with every new EBMM back in the 90's, the official colors were Pearl Red and Pearl Blue. I could be wrong but I believe the color was from a forumla used by House of Kolor.

This is from the 5/94 specifications brochure.

Kimono,
Thanks for the info. I too thought it was a pearl red on my original luke 1. It appears to me that the new color has more of a shine and "fire" too it. I copied your posted spec sheet btw...thanks a bunch for that.

Wow I'd kill to have that LUKE 1 reissue. I've always wanted a LUKE with a Floyd rose set up!
Nice!

I love the floyds on the Lukes. It's no secret that I wish EBMM would re release the luke 1 with floyd as one of their production models. For me the guitar is a masterpiece and just fits my hands like a glove.

Cheers,

Tom

Few more pics below: Including my Luke 1 reissue sledge with floyd I took as I was adjusting the floyd springs on the new Candy red L1R. I took them inside with a flash, they are not the best pics, but you can get the idea of how the red has a nice shine/fire to it. I'm not getting much sleep lately and its been raining for the last few days so these are the best pics I can get. I'll try to get some outside pics soon.

Those pics look great! I think the color is pretty much the same as the original. I had 2 of the Pearl red in the past and I've always loved that color.

I'm curious to try a set of Lukather EMG-X in my Luke 1 but it's the old style electronics and not quick release like the newer EMGs.

Kimono,

According to the DOB thread, jacob.rocha is calling it "candy red", I realize it's just a name, perhaps it is the same color, and it does look very very similar to the original "Pearl Red" Luke 1 I had also. It's been a while since I've seen an original red one and mine was bought second hand, but I don't seem to remember it having quite the vibrance/luster of this "candy red" color. Of course mine was bought second hand and this one is new, and the original luster could have faded to some degree due to exposere etc... Either way I think it is extremely close also. I am sure it is not identical due to the fact that they used to hand mix and now they are not hand mixing, but all in all it's a great color.

Let me know if you decide to go for the EMG X pups, I would be very interested in hearing your opinion on them.

Cheers,

Tom
