NGD! Some kind of old Axis MM1 love here

hi forumites,

haven't posted here for a while, now i wanna share some pictures with you.
got a used OLP MM1 Axis the other day...just stumpled across this, while i did my search for as old EVH...
as i have seen this one, i had to have it. the price was good and it looks quite nice. not as worn and beaten up as a lot of them.

as i got it, i took of the neck and sanded down the thin laquer finish which it comes with. just to get this "real deal" natural finish feeling.

before i started sanding, i put on a masking tape around the neck, where the nut is. so that i get this typical Music Man style unfinished neck, finished headstock look.

after sanding was finished, i gave it four coats of True-Oil and 3 coats of Gun Stock Wax afterwards.
now it feels great!

so here are the pix for you:

and because it worked out so well, i did the same sanding process to my OLP Silo Baritone - which came out as great as on the Axis.

In the days before my Axis, I bought an MM1F in natural that I loved. The neck couldn't compare with my Axis, though, and I sold it shortly after I got the real deal. Still miss that guitar every now and then. It was my gateway drug. :)

Will put on a better nut and with this, make sure that the string run straight thru it to the tuner.
Although i think about sanding off a bit of the wood, to make the fretboard and neck a bit smaller, more like on the evh....but one step after another ;-)
otherwise it's a cool guitar for the money!
