Well, after enjoying the heck out of my Reflex and it's neck-from-heaven, I decided to try and give my SBMM Silo30 some love and improve the already great neck feel. I took the neck off of it and sanded down the back (100 grit sand paper followed by 0 steel wool then 0000 steel wool) and gave it the Birchwood-Casey Tru Oil and Wax treatment. Two coats of each. I can honestly say it feels like a new guitar now. Absolutely outstanding feel. Smooth as my Reflex. Also, I threw a set of the new EB Slinky M-steel strings on it. Amazing set of strings. If you like the Cobalts you'll love these. Outstanding sound.

Well, I actually started with 0 grit steel wool but that was taking forever. So I decided to go with sandpaper. I went with 100 as it seemed a pretty good start. That certainly sped things up. I then followed up with the 0 then 0000 steel wool. I also used cheese cloth to clean the dust off every so often during sanding. The neck turned out really nice. It was a fun little project. Not the best pics but you get the idea.

The sterling necks are awesome after you refinish them, i did it with my ax40 , I used 600 grit paper and did the fingerboard as well, then some naptha and a day to dry, then the oil, then wax finish, the key is when rubbing it in with the rag is to use a lot of friction and get it in the wood, but WOW what great necks once the mod is done, truly great guitars for imports, almost like the real thing when set up properly and with the real pups.
