Finally picked up my SBMM JP100 today. In came factory sealed and there are only a few minor setup issues, but only minor. It's pretty close right out of the box. I am really impressed with how little is needed after being shipped (and likely tossed around!).

I've wanted a Music Man for a long time and when I came across the Sterling JP's I knew I had the guitar I wanted. I wanted a flat radius, humbucker HH, no locking nut, etc. I wanted something other than a Strat because I find that HH strats still sound Straty. I wanted something different.

This guitar definitely fills the void left with my Strats, on the heavier humbucker end of the spectrum. I only played it for ten minutes and it sounds very good so far.

The jumbo frets aren't as tall as I had hoped, so going from my scalloped necks on my Strats to this requires a little adjustment.

I think I got a decent top grain on mine. I happy with that because I never got to see the guitar before buying. It looks like the grain extends closer to the edge on mine than other's I have seen where the dark border was larger. Excellent! Overall fit and finish is excellent. No complaints.

I'm looking forward to setting it up and getting more time on it.

I played it all evening! We're bonding well.

The colors don't look right in my pictures. It actually has a slight, light brown/green tint rather than grey as it appears.

This picture from the web better captures the true color.

is it me, or does the trem arm look like it sits really far off the guitar? (almost looks like you could stick your whole arm under it)

Congrats on a great purchase. you won't be disappointed. Throw on a set of Liquid Fire/Crunch Lab and you'll have even better tone.

Thanks!

If you or anyone else with a SBMM JP made that pickup swap, can you describe the difference in terms of tone or articulation?

BTW - I have had some correspondence with Pat Park and I have to say that I have never had such great customer service! To anyone landing here on a Google search of the Sterling JP's, I highly recommend! Great guitar at a reasonable price backed by the best customer service! Thanks Pat.

.

I made that pickup swap after Pat recommended it. It totally put the tone onto another level. FYI some of the special GC Sterling models come with CL/LF, but with more money of course.
