Last NGD for at least a few weeks! Promise
So last month in November I took a bit of a chance after I was told by my bud Tyler that a member here had this John Petrucci model! I ended up missing this run in 2012 since I had lacked the funds when Bass Central still had them, so when I heard there was another owner I shot him a message! Asked if he'd be interested in my JP12, and now here we are!
I got this from Unscarred, and he was an absolute pleasure to work with. Deal went off without a hitch, so if anyone is skeptical, I can vouch for him. Stand up guy!
Anyways, enough of that! Here's a cover video like I always try to provide and some pictures of the damn thing! Enjoy!
If anyone's interested, the patch I used is in the video description. It's for the Axe FX 2, so I don't know if it's compatible with older units like the Ultra/Standard but give it a shot!
Here’s the ErnieBall Musicman JP6 Premier Dealer Network Guitar! They have these runs that last a month or so at a time with specific appointments to a guitar that can be ordered across the board with any of their models (Save for maybe 1 or 2). These are pretty random and sporadic, so without some insight about when they’ll happen, you can’t exactly save up for one. Anyways, I missed this run and any of the in stocks they had last year at most retailers, so my only hope was the second hand market. Thankfully it did pull through! Unscarred kept this thing in absolutely mint condition! Overall I have to say, I don’t regret trading my JP12 for this one bit. I still miss the 12 to all hell, but every time I pick this guitar up it feels and plays insanely good. I’ll probably end up getting one in the future to at least have them both!
The specs for this guitar are as follows:
Pau Ferro Fretboard
Roasted Birdseye Maple Bolt-on Neck
One-Piece Mahogany Body
24 Stainless Steel Frets
15” Radius
3 Way Toggle Switch (Pickups)
3 Way Toggle (Piezo/Magnetics)
1 Volume, 1 Tone, 1 Piezo Volume
Dimarzio Crunchlab/Liquifire Pickups
Musicman JP Floating Tremolo
As far as the aesthetics go, it’s got a wonderful warm vibe going for it. Everything looks really amazing on it and every feature compliments each other very well. The Roasted Maple neck is a pleasure to look at, and the Trans-Honey Burst Headstock over the Birdseye is an excellent touch that I prefer over the unpainted headstock. The Mahogany Grain is also absolutely stunning, the arm cut shows off the grain very well and has this wave like effect when held up against the light. That and the Honey Burst in and of itself is such an attractive finish! I’m considering throwing a set of Nickel Covered Pickups in there to really complete the look, tonally the CL/LF really compliment it but it’d look nice with the covered pickups!
This really surprised me in the tonal department, my biggest fear was getting a guitar that was far too warm instead of achieving the balance the JP12 had that made me fall for it. I can definitely say that this guitar is every bit as warm as the 12, but everything sounds and feels far more expressive. I can’t put my finger on it, know that the Roasted Neck is adding the brightness and clarity to the notes. I have no prior experience with Pau Ferro, but it is a beautiful wood, smooth to the touch and not porous like Rosewood instead it’s very dense. But the clarity is just immense on this thing, everything I play on it is beautifully defined without having to be harsh to cut through in mixes.
I really enjoy this guitar quite a bit, I don’t have any plans to part with it. Between the comfort and the tonal characteristics, this is probably one of my favorite JP’s that I’ve ever owned or played. If anyone gets the chance to play or buy one of these, do not hesitate. Incredible piece.
Thanks for checking it out!
