Well, I have to stay I'm stunned and I'm not! Received my new Axis SS Semi-Hollow within the last hour, I opened the case and I was just blown away. I shouldn't be, right? We are all accustomed to the amazing guitars Sterling and his people turn out. This guitar just has the 'wow' factor upon first sight. Build quality is just stunning! Only played it for about 20 minutes so far, I was really excited to share the pics with you guys. The cleans are some of the best I have ever heard on any guitar, and I have owned MANY! With gain settings, she maintains all the growl and attitude that you would expect from a solid body Axis. Factor in the vintage tremolo and you have a real tone machine on your hands. Thanks Big Poppa and everyone at EBMM, I have owned so many of your guitars and this may just be my favorite yet!

That looks bitchin! How do you think they would work with the classic metal sort of sound? Does the semi-hollow aspect turn it into more of a jazz/blues/ low-gain guitar, or does it make it an axis with just a little more character?

I think you hit when you said "Axis with just a little more character." It still maintains all the characteristics of the solid-body Axis, but the hollow-body features make those jazz/blues tones more possible in my opinion. The tone control is important in getting those sounds. The big gain to my ears is the clean tones, incredible definition. Rolling back the tone control gives you an almost Les Paul-like sound in the neck pickup. I need to play it more to offer a more substantial review, but I definitely hear a difference from the the solid-body variant. So far, I have to say it's one of my favorite EBMM guitars and I've owned every one but the Morse and Reflex.

How many children did you have to give up to Wilcutt? :D

Believe it or not, they worked with me and matched another dealer's price. I went to our great friend Pete D. first, as I always do, he just didn't have a guitar for me this time.
