I was called into the studio to lay down some scratch tracks after work on Monday for a rock/pop outfit here in NYC. Being that I did not have prior notice, I went to the studio bass-less as the producer said he had "two great ones" I could use. When I arrived, I had the pick of a MIA P or J and used both, each for a handful of songs. The producer did not take notice of what bass I was using, he was more focused on his computer monitor.
Everything went OK, but I was told to come back on Tuesday to go over different parts, and if need be, re-track. So Tuesday I bring my Bongo 5HH, don't say a word as I plug in and get started on the first track. Producer turns around after and says the mix sounds amazing today, very rich, and asks what am I doing differently. I explain that I brought my own bass, and when he sees the Bongo, asks if Fender puts it out
This guy is friend of mine, but a real headstock snob. It's funny how much you can hear by just listening...using your ears and not your eyes...
Safe to say the album is going to have Bongo all over it.
