No 2nd hand market for MM basses?

Ive had my Stingray on ebay for a while now and regularly check out the other basses on there but ive noticed that they seem really low priced. Im guessing that the used market has dried up because a few years ago there was hardly any used MM basses about, now there is some they either dont sell or go for a pittance.

Single H are a hard sell right now, everything else goes very fast. Single H basses market is hard as Sterling by Musicmans & Subs are great values.

IMO the second hand market is at a real "low" - For example, I'm seeing guitars that a few years ago would have been snapped up for double the asking price - a 70's P bass in Cardiff going for a really really low price compared with a few years ago - I've had the neck off it and had a rummage arond under the hood and it's a genuine piece!

Thank goodness I'm not one for "flipping" guitars because at the mo it's a buyers market.

It could be tied into the economy. Everybody's looking for a good deal and if you aren't offering one your axe will move slowly.

A few years ago when I wanted to buy my first EBMM the price was about 1.200€ [1450$) for a good one.
The last ones on ebay gone away for about 750€ - 850€. All single H´s

I have a couple of 4H's on EBay that are not selling. Typically the world market would snap these up for $950 -$1000. Now there are people from distant countries being obnoxious and offering really lowball deals. Once PayPal and Ebay fees are taking into account, there is no pointing selling.

I recently sold an SR5 H for $850 that was in very good condition for a 1998. Times are tough all over.

It's not just single H basses. Everything is slow right now. I thik the lull this instant is due to it being summer.

I've got a couple of really nice older Rays up for sale and all I'm getting is lowball tire-kickers, no serious bites. Good thing I can afford to wait it out until Fall, should get much better by mid-September....

I have (23) basses, 2 are EBMM, a Sterling & a Bongo.
Once, I thought of selling the Bongo when I was in a move, glad I re-thought that!
When I moved, I DID sell a number of basses that I wish now I still had. The descriptions would kill 'ya.
Now- Things are on a very good roll financially, and I may add a bass or 2-
But NONE of my basses are for sale; each and every one has it's own character and tone, each fits how I want to play it like a glove.

I understand flipping basses, and needing $$, but for me as far as purchasing I have the method that works for me.
Each instrument is a "bass-for-life" It's going to stay and be a part of my tools of the trade forever.

That's my solution to today's low market value for used gear. BTW- I don't like to by used; no reason, just my own way.

Good luck with your 'Ray sale btw; sooner if not later you'll find a buyer I'll bet.

Must be stingrays, cause all the used sterling 5s on ebay are over priced. Economy is only going to get worse especially if the current looser in chief gets another 4.

Like everyone has said, it's a really bad time to be selling guitars at the moment. I've not had much luck shifting some of mine and the one that finally went (via E-bay) was considerably less than I'd hoped to get, but beggars can't be choosers.

If you're not really desparate for the cash, I'd be tempted to hold off selling it.

It's decent time for trading up, used-for-used.
Works like this: 5 yrs ago your current bass had
a trade-in value of $750 against an upgrade to
your next used bass, priced at $2100. You part
with $1350 for that upgrade. Same two basses
today ? Your trade is now down to $500. The
upgrade bass is down to about $1400. You part
with $900 for the same upgrade.

Acoarst, this only feels good if you're making the
same income you made 5 yrs ago. If your income
is only 2/3 of what it used to be, the whole thing
is a wash :-/
