I was hoping to checkout the Bongo and Sterling, but there don't seem to be any for sale in San Diego county. Hmph! Does anyone know where I can find them on display?

This is another great question for customer service. Sterlings can usually be found at Guitar Center and other Music Man retailers, but Bongos aren't so easy. I know the Dubaldo Music, Bass Central, and The Perfect Bass stock them, but I'm not sure about any other retailers.

Any authorized EBMM retailer can order you one though.

Stand-off

Call me old fashioned, but I feel a need to actually see, feel and hear a new model before ordering one.

It seems that the combined effects of low-cost Internet sales and a sluggish economy are fostering a stand-off between me and my local GC. I won't buy until they stock; They won't stock until I buy.

GC discontinued Bongos a while ago, I wouldn't hold my breath anticipating them bringing any more in. There's a really sweet Classic Sterling at Wild West Guitars, so if you ever drive up towards Riverside, be sure to check it out.

i recently bought a music man in GC Lake Forest, CA. Great pricing as they were on clearance. I'd call there ask for manager and see what they have.

i got a 2007 HH stingray for $980 +case

i also live in san diego and both san marcos and la mesa were thin on stock and high on price

Last time i went to GC La Mesa they had some Sterlings and some SBMM basses too.

The last Bongo i saw there was used and in really bad shape :(

Buy several and if you don't like them, sell them. You will like them though. I bought a bongo sight unseen and love it!

I concur. I bought my Bongo DDII 4HH without ever having played a Bongo and while waiting on it to come in, I also order a Roasted 4H Bongo. I figured that if I was disappointed with the Bongo, I could always sell it on here or trade it for another Music Man bass. Let's just say this. My Bongo is now my main bass and the Roasted, when I get it will also be the other main one I play. I absolutely love the Bongos. I do all of my bass purchases from Bass Central because they have treated me wonderful on every purchase but another place I would also buy from is The Perfect Bass as I have heard nothing but good things from those guys too.

La Mesa had a fair number a while back. San Marcos seems better and Lake Forest is usually tops them both.
