I have an Axis sport with a humbucker and two single coils and I always get bad hum through my amp which is currenty a Mesa Boogie F100 w/ a 2x12 extension cab. At first I thought it was the cord, but a different cord did not solve the problem. And I have ruled out the amp as it does not make the noise with my strat through it and when a friend of mine brought his Luke over. The noise also changes depending on if the guitar is facing the amp or away from it.

my question, what is causing the noise and how do I correct it. The guitar is a '98 I think - serial A92658 if that helps

Thanks!

Alot of things can be cause unwanted noise, environment (fluro lights etc etc), a bad earth, maybe you have the gain turned up too much on your amp, do you have a computer nearby?

I hope this helps,

Scott.

Hmmmm. When you're away from the amp...how does it change? Does it get quiter? The Axis pup is not super hot but could be hotter than what's in a Luke, so that might explain that a little. Not sure about that but just a thought.

It's possible that there could be a dodgy ground on the guitar. Are you the original owner of the guitar. Have it checked out if you're not. Try the guitar at your buddies place with his amp and see what happens.

Good luck!

The noise gets quiter or louder depending on how to guitar is facing my amp. The gain is not up that high either. It is usually between 12 and 1 o'clock.

This does not happen when I use my other guitar. I also tried the guitar at my buddies house and the same thing happens which leads me to believe it is the guitar. I checked the ground connections and everything looks ok.

Anyone know of a reputible shop in the Detroit area I can take it to?

some of the best players in the world who have their own custom models still get a hum through their amps when they remove both hands from the strings.
REALLY THEY DO!
I don't know what to tell ya other than keep, at least, one hand on the strings, or EQ your amp differently.
