I love my all my EBMM guitars, especially because of their gunstock wax/oil treated naked necks. I have played other brands and have sanded down my PRS 25th 305 and G&L Comanche necks to the bare wood and meticulously treated them with the EBMM gunstock wax/oil approved application. I recently stumbled upon a NOS regular PRS 305 maple neck guitar and low and behold its neck appears completely naked/untreated. It even has my preferred 25 1/2 inch scale length. I bought it on the spot. Does anyone know any other manufacturer/model that sells naked neck guitars? The PRS 305 is the first non EBMM I have seen with an untreated neck. I also tried a BFR JP KOA with a painted neck and I hated the neck. I can't bear to sand my deluxe strat, but the rest of my guitars are naked necks now. I can't ever imagine buying any guitar that doesn't have a naked neck, the smooth feeling neck feels so effortless now. I will pass on all the rest.

Well it's gotta be difficult with mahogany necks.

The way I see it most manufacturers don't like it because it picks up dings much easier and they don't want the returns from guitar center.

Warwick has unpainted necks if you use one of their wenge or ovankol necks. More like rosewood than truoil+wax maple, though.

Thanks. I never though I would say this but I think I have all the gear I could ever want to play. My GAS has finally subsided and I now have my eye firmly on a proper recording studio. Just a couple of pearlman mics, a Cali76 an iOS daw and proper sound treatment and I'm ready to properly record. I know that is a whole other can of worms.

I was aso told that the PRS Brent Mason and the C24 Floyd have unfinished necks, but I never tried one of these.

I shaved my XI 7 and threw in a Lundgren M7, and wow, the neck (tung oil +1) is so fast, especially if your doing something like, lets say um....sweeping progression/movements, speed/alternate picking for runs, and the legato is a lot smoother.

I don't know if that helps, but yeah...modding your EBMM is highly recommended: I don't wanna play John Petrucci's guitar...I want to play my EBMM, JP does his thing, and I do mine: just so happened the best guitars on the planet are EBMM's Flagship lol I love the Majesty to death, and I wouldn't change anything about it (maybe the pups but no big deal), and the XI 7 is the best player I have

idk if that helps but cheers

I have an 87 BC Rich Gunslinger and an ST-III, both with natural necks. LOVE THEM. I agree with you. Much prefer them that way. Sort of like how I like other things smooth.... :D

I replaced the neck on my strat with a naked EVH-profiled USA Custom Guitars (USACG) neck. The strat neck had a signature from Uli Jon Roth on it, so I wasn't going to sell it, but I didn't want an unused guitar just sitting around, so I replaced it. Great neck, but I go for the balls every time (unless I am going for a neck single coil sound).

I love the smoothness of the necks on my EBMM guitars, but never had any issues going from a coated neck to a Ball neck. Maybe if I played nothing but EBMM guitars the first 14 years, but the Silo did not come out until 85 and I was playing for 14 years already it would of felt strange. Truthfully not an issue for me, but I get where you are coming from.
