Hey!
New to the forum, so a short introduction first, and then a question.
First name's Martin and last name's Gibson--and no, I'm not joking!:) I'm a high school English teacher from Central Illinois and am rapidly approaching mid-life crisis time. Musically, I'm into 70's outlaw country and 80's metal. I currently own a Martin Sigma acoustic, a 1981 Fender Bullet (USA model), a newer Kramer Striker and a Jackson Dinky with a sustainer. Although I currently don't own one, I'm a big fan of Hamer guitars and am a regular at the Hamer Fan Club forum. I'm hurtin' for a good amp right now, which leads me to my next question.

My father-in-law, now five years deceased, was quite a talented guitarist specializing in progressive jazz. While he pawned and otherwise pissed away some incredible guitars, he did leave behind an amp that has me curious. It's a Music Man 100 RP tube head and a matching 1-15 speaker cabinet loaded with a newer EV speaker.

It has an incredibly fat tone and looks near mint. What is this thing worth? Can anyone supply more details about it? It is currently sitting in an upstairs closet with an old Peavey solid state keyboard amp. At some point, I'd like to try to buy it from my mother-in-law, but would like to learn more about it.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Hey Martin Gibson, what a name!! Now I want to change mine to Music Man.

Anyway, that sounds like a great amp you got there, similar to one I had back in the late 70's.

I think the only thing you need now is a brand New MM Axis guitar, then you're all set to enter you "mid-life" crisis very well equipped!!

Enjoy the ride!:)

Martin,

Welcome to the forum. However, Ernie Ball only bought the MM guitars when the original company went bankrupt back in 1984; they didn't buy the amps so these have been long out of production. They don't really have any of the old materials on them either. In terms of pricing, probably ebay would be your only guide.

There is a fan site for the old MM amps where you can get some info:

http://www.musicmanamps.com/

I also had a Music Man amp back in the day (a 1981 RD50-112) that was a nice amp.

Thanks for the info and the link. If I can manage to convince the mother-in-law to sell me the amp, I'll be sure to come back and post a tone report.

+1 on the MM amp site.

I was mulling over getting one and got some great info from that Forum.

Although there are some guys on here with the MM amp there aren't many so replies would be at a premium here.

Not to pee on yer chips but the reason I didn't get one is because the modern amps are imo better - so I got a Mesa F50 instead which has great cleans and dirtys up well too.

Anyways, good luck -oh, and get yourself an Ernie Ball guitar.
