Hi everyone,

I bought my first EBMM in May last year, an amazing GC AL HH, and have been thinking for a while about getting my second EBMM. I have my eyes set on the Axis but have a couple noob questions.

1) Does the new model have a different nut (screws don't go through the neck) and a different trem? or is this just for applicable to the Axis Tribute?
2) Can I swap the volume knob for a push/pull one so I can split the coils?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Cheers,

Jose

Hi Capelo.
I hope that I have understood your question correctly?
You can get the Axis Super sport which uses the Classic MM trem without the locking nut as follows(no screws thro the neck)
Axis Super Sport

as opposed to the Floyd Rose version which has screws thro the neck
Axis
that uses the locking nut

I also bleeb that you can mod it to split the coils - but I am cr4p on electrics !!

Thanks a lot Spud! Appreciated.

Just to clarify, my question was whether the screws in the Axis locking nut still go through the neck, or not. I know that in the Axis Tribute they don't but in the standard Axis they did. I believe I read somewhere that the Locking trem and nut had been upgraded for all Axis but can't find the source anymore.

My AL HH covers a lot of tones, so now I am after a no-frills killer rock machine and the Axis ticks all the boxes (and then some).

Cheers,

Jose

yeah I also like my Al.

Have you tried a Silo - HsH would be a great combo. I'm not a lover of screws behind the nut in anyshape or form.
The Classic MM trem can be set floating and is very stable what with the locking tuners.

Yup, as far as I know the neck through screws have been replaced with a top mounted Floyd nut on new Axis models now. As far changing the volume pot to a push/pull that shouldn't be a problem as the Axis pups are splittable so all it would take is someone who knows how to wire it up.

Thanks a lot Spud!

I am afraid I haven't tried a Silo yet but from the clips I have seen on web they sound awesome. I am planning to make small trip to Anderton's this weekend to try out a few EBMM and see which one suits me best. I am not a huge fan of HSH config as I tend to hit the middle pickup which is a bit annoying. Anyways, the Silo Special is an HSS and looks like really interesting option. Let's see if I change my mind after trying them all.

Thanks a lot OU812!! Really appreciated. Looks like the Axis is the way to go. Some dealers here in Europe still have the older version, so I need to find one that has one of the new models. As long as it's a trans finish I am good to go.

There are some good EB/MM dealers in the UK, check the MM website or maybe some of the UK guys here can help you out on where to look or keep an eye on the FOR SALE thread for any new Axis (Axii?) guitars being sold from Euro members.

Hi Capelo

Axis is great sounding rock axe... buddy of mine is selling a vintage sunburst supersport with trem that I believe has an screaming demon in the bridge. Matching headtstock and trem. Awesome neck. He is in London too if you interested let me know & I'll put you in touch

Good luck with the hunting for an axis

Cheers

My axis has a p/p pot to split the coils. It's a surprisingly useful mod IMO.
