Um, so I wanna put a set of EB Hybrids on my JP6 as they better suit my playing style, but as its already got some reg gauge strings on there, do I have to adjust the trem to accomodate for the differing gauge ratio? (Regs are all in gauge 10, Hybrids have bottom 3 in 10, top 3 in 9)

Ta. :)

Due to the fact you hybrids will have a little less tension because of the 3 lighter gauge strings, you may have to give the trem screws a little 1/4 turn out or something like that. Where it's such a small difference you probably won't know till you change them. Not a big deal to do though. You won't need to tweak the truss rod, I wouldn't say.

Right, sorry for the bump, I'm in the process of doing this atm, but need more help, the lower three strings (Low E through D) are fine, but the action is way, way too low on the top three (G through High E), so much so they're touching the fret dividers. Now, this is of course, because the previous strings were 10s, so the trem was set up perfectly for those three low strings, but not the high ones, so how do I/what do I adjust to get the strings at the right level? I'm thinking the saddles, moving the ones of the high strings forward to raise the strings, but before I do anything, I thought I'd consult the MM Forum guys.

Please help meh.

Before adjusting the saddles, make sure the trem is sitting completely level with the top of the guitar.

You should NEVER have to adjust saddles for different gauge strings. All this takes is a little trem spring tension adjustment.

I'd loosen the high side about 1/16 of a turn and retune each time until it sits level. You might have to adjust the low side, too.

No leave the saddles alone id say they are fine. maybe it needs a slight truss rod adjustment. give it a slight turn anticlockweise

Wait till someone elses chimes in first though as i dont have a JP6

I'm the least technically minded person ever, so I've decided just to take it somewhere. I'm so terrified of breaking it. Plus, is it possible to accidently move the truss rod some how without actually using an allen key etc, cos the dial seems to be in a different place now... or is that just natural when the strings are off...

You could do. if it puts you mind at ease you may as well.

Ask to tech to show you how he fixes it so you'll know in future if you want to change back.

Dont think the truss rod should change without intent

Also dont take all the srings off a the same time either. change them one by one.

good luck with it my man and let us know how you get on

Its cool, it should be alright, I'm taking it to a pro guy tomorrow, it'll turn out fine. :)

Thanks for all the help by the way, I feel like a right idiot. And I should post more, its cos of here that I have the guitar in the first place.

I did, but only so I could throughly clean it, I haven't since I got the thing, and it was used to start with. Looks gorgeous now though, even stringless. :)

You made the right choice taking it to a pro. If you're not comfortable doing these things yourself, that's the best choice.

Post some pics of that guitar, btw. We love the guitar porn on the EBMM forums.
