A big thanks for the heads up on the Axis. I am the proud owner of a new Blue Dawn Sport. :D

It should arrive tomorrow. Holy Sheet, I can't wait.

Wow, I just realized I'm a 2-Ball man now, I feel so complete...

FSmith,

You had me worried, I've been looking at getting the BD Axis Sport without the matching headstock and with the trem.

I guess I better call them and put a deposit on it.

I was sweating it there for a minute.

Hey GWDavis28,
Based on the price he originally quoted, I thought I was getting mine without the matching headstock. The sales guy called me back and told me that they only had the one with the matching headstock so it would cost me more $$. Apparently the other is gone.

I found them by searching the EBMM database, which is not an easy thing and they seemed like they were the only one's that had it in Blue Dawn.

I got the Sport.

Yeah I hear ya about the wife. Once I found out that they had one in stock I was doing some quick talking this morning myself. ;)

But honey, they don't make this color anymore, it's a great guitar, I need a second guitar for alternate tunings, it'll bring out the color of my eyes, I'll save wear and tear on my Petrucci, did I mention they don't make this color anymore?

Thank god for understanding women...

Fred I turn 40 next month, so I'm working that angle and I think she's buying it. I already have 1 Silhouette Special and 1 discontinued (Silver Sparkle) Axis Sport, so I really have to call this my last one for a while. With 2 little ones things are tight.

I'll keep you informed as to whether or not I get it. It's on deposit right now and I should know by the end of the week.

POST PICTURES!!!! Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please.

I'll post pictures ASAP. I'm waiting for the UPS tracking info, but I was told it should show up tomorrow.

They didn't have a picture of this one so I'm not really sure if it has the binding or if it's the solid body. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

I really didn't have a lot of time to research this one as well as I did my Petrucci so I have a few questions. I was planning on an Axis as my next guitar and probably wouldn't have jumped right now if it wasn't for the color. I really like the Blue Dawn and being discontinued I figured I should jump on whatever came along first.

What's the difference in the Axis vs. the Sport vs. the Super Sport? Is it cosmetic or are there other differences?

It has the H/H configuration, and I want to A/B it along side of my Petrucci to see if it sounds much different, but is it possible or desireable to change the the MM P90's if I want to later?

thanks,
fred

Fred,

The Sport seemed to be the lower end model of the Axis, but I could be mistaken here. I don't really know too much about them just that I love them, but this web page might be able to help (Jon please don't blow away the access to the page it's how I found a BD model).

http://www.ernieball.com/mmonline/build/build_axissport.php

It might be able to shed some light on the Sport model. I'm sure that someone will read these posts and offer what they know about the different Axis models. Jimi-D seems to know a lot about them.

From the above link you can see that the Axis Sport model could have been configured with the MM90 pickups, so it looks like you can do a swap if you want.

Well hope this helps and I can't wait to see the pictures

Thanks for the info! I never knew that page still existed, now I know the reason for the plea to Jon. :)

I wait to see if anyone else can add any more info.

It's easier when you're still a newly wed. :D

Congratulations on the Blue Dawn. I love that color.

Fred, yah I stumbled across the page by looking at the other Axis pages and taking a SWAG. I got it on the first shot and I was psyched!!

Bing, yah I didn't like Blue Dawn at first, but once again I a sucker for the really sparkley paint jobs. They remind me of 60's-70's hot rods. You know the Charges, Super Bee's, Super Birds and such.

When I was a kid I had a Mustard Yellow metallic bicycle with the really big flake and my brother had a grape Purple metallic one too just like the EBMM's. I guess we all relive a bit of our childhood every now and then.

It has arrived!!! Damn, the color is even nicer in person than in any of the pictures I've seen. Once I get it cleaned up a bit I will post the pictures.

I tuned it up and gave it a quick once over and really liked the response. A little different from the Petrucci, but no mistaking the typical Ernie Ball quality.

One thing I noticed though and thought there might be something wrong is that I use an RTS cable with my Petrucci and when I plugged the RTS into the Axis there was no output. Replaced with a mono cable and voila, let there be noise. Does anyone know if it's a different jack on the Axis vs. the Petrucci or do I really have a problem?

I'm not sure how long they've had it in the store, but the neck needs a good cleaning and a re-oil and wax job. I'm going to have Jon check the serial number for the born on date.

Glenn, turns out that it is really a Super Sport, I thought I was buying Sport. Are you going to get the one you put a deposit on?
Have you bought anything from Royal in the past? The reason I ask is the guitar and case reek of something like smoke and something I can't put my finger on. The guitar is fine otherwise. I'm just airing everything out and sprayed the case with Febreeze.

Bing, yeah I guess it might be easier being a newly wed, but I still had to do some quick talking since I just got the Petrucci in February.

Norm, thanks again. I was just throwing it out there not really expecting that there would be a new one available. I figured I'd have to keep checking EBay for one to show up and take my chances.
