I'm relatively good at keeping secrets. I have a long history of doing exactly that, but I was amazed/stunned/surprised that the guitarists missed that little tibdit.

Bassists would never have just moved on, right?

If I knew any guitarist jokes this would be the perfect point for me to insert one to illustrate how slow they are :)

That's why BP doesn't say such things over here!

Devil's advocate....

That is lovely. Really nice. Me likey.

Now, please don't get me wrong, but I kind of hope it isn't representative of the overall future direction of EBMM, as sweet as it might be.

Why?

Simple. How many times have we thumbed our noses at the boutique crowd who get all swoony over fancy wood? Aren't we seeing the exact same thing happening here?

To be perfectly honest, seeing all that koa made me think of Carvin.

Before anyone gets all excited, I'm not suggesting that brand C guitars are anywhere NEAR as nice as EBMMs, especially the one-offs. It's just the aesthetic of the thing. This kind of treatment certainly has its place in the grand scheme, but it can be a slippery slope that ends up with abalone block inlays and other such frippery.

I like evolutionary development and the amazingly sweet instruments that the SLO crew produces as much as anyone. Just keep those beautiful polyester finishes, stunning colors and innovative designs coming.

I tend to think that what we're seeing here is a glimpse of the thinking process at MM. Doesn't mean they're headed in that direction, just taking a look.

First off, us guitar guys get too giddy over new stuff and then we can't think straight for awhile. I can get past that as I have been learning the bass and getting my laid back approach down....sometimes I relapse, but, I am working on it...........:D

My approach to the woods is this. I believe that the wood makes the tone (obviously) and some wood should be seen in it's natural state. Such as this piece of Koa beauty Dargie showed us. If you get down to it, the guitars have options like the premium maple top....why is that? The wood grain is awesome and it stands out irregardless of the color scheme. Look at the Y2D or the 20th Anniv Silo....gorgeous finishes and gorgeous tops. When the Y2D came out, the first things mentioned were the color you wanted followed by the type of top.

The 30th Anniv. Stingray was one of the most gorgeous bass guitars I have seen. You guys should have seen the back of the neck on it. Bird's eye throught out. The headstock the same way.....
Even Big Poppa looked at me and said "Look at the neck on this one Koogs." He was excited. Not because of the color....it was the wood.

Boutique or not, people love the wood finishes of exotic woods. I am one of them. The difference is, these are EBMM's. We KNOW that they will be the best ones offered.

I really don't believe they are going to throw out all the paints and just build these type of guitars and basses. I do believe they might be incorporating these in to furhter drain our bank accounts. Of course, this is only speculation on my part, but I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Keep 'em coming I say....it is growth and experimenting that makes great things happen!

Beautiful lumber is something to be found, revealed and admired; I trust EBMM to help mother nature show off her best work.

What spooks me is inferior or middling product covered over with fancy and artificial stuff; and the pressure on the overall market by consumer grade gear made to look like more than it is.

It's a very nice looking guitar but . . . wouldn't it be more helpful if they put the name of the note under each string? :D
