Found this donor for a special project coming up. It’s a gorgeous 20 ½ year old AL (8/1996).
In very good shape and very well seasoned…sweet sounding & playing!
Standard tuners and nut, hard tail, no silent circuit, Swamp Ash body & maple neck, vintage sunburst finish.…exactly what I was looking for! :D
It’s very cool getting to play an early model like this.
Just thought I’d share a few pics with you...

Named him "Jack", as in "old No. 7" :p

Nice one! How does the neck profile compare to your latest model AL? Interesting to have an OLD one like that with which to compare.

Nice. I like the figuring on the back of the neck.

Did you buy the AL for a music project, or is the AL going to be the project?

Recessed neck plate - check.
Neck carve - feels just like my other AL's... :)
Super secret special project - something I've been thinking about for a few years now. Involves customizing the guitar in a non-destructive, totally reversible way. (which is good because it's pretty sweet as is...). I'm usually not one for teasers, but I don't want to give out details until I see if it even works or not. It's gonna take at least a few weeks...

Like so many MM finishes, the pics really don't do justice to how beautiful this guy is in person. He's got plenty of dings & bumps, and an exceptable amount of fret wear. But for his age, he's been well cared for. Got him for a very fair price, so it's all good!
Again, he's a great example of AL history :)
