Hi all,

I noticed a crack in the nut of my Axis SS last time I changed strings. I saw in the FAQ that it might be due to the fact that the slits in the nut were not widened while going to a heavier string gauge. I use EBs 10-46, so this is not a huge increase in gauge compared to factory settings.

Will this crack affect the playing / sound of the guitar (it doesn't seem to), and what can I do about it? Can I get a replacement nut somewhere (I live in France)? Thank you.

Hello there,

The same happened to me. You can order a new blank nut (uncut) through a dealer. I believe the part number is M05153.

I hope this helps

I ordered a nut from customer service. They were polite, and the nuts (2 in a pack) arrived promptly.

You might want to try a small drop of super glue on the offending crack.

Yeah glue the b***ch. But get one from the customer service too then the glued one will hold forever. If you don´t order one it won´t. Murphy´s Law.

Thank you all for your replies,

I will try the glue trick, and see if I can order nuts through my local dealer.

Thanks again.

All this talking about nuts and balls on the forum...

How hard is it to replace a nut? I've been debating trying to widen the gaps to fit heavier gauge strings (for C-standard) on my JP6, but I'm scared I'll break the nut.
