Okay. I have a guitar with two DiMarzio humbucking pickups in it. I currently have it wired similar to a JP but something's not right. I got the schematic from DiMarzio's website and have the 12 pole switch... it still isn't quite doing what I want. I doesn't have that JP center position "grind".

So here's the question. I want to be able to switch each coil on as I choose which I can do with a 3 way SPDT. My question now is, how do I wire a DPDT switch in order to choose series/parallel when using the pickups in single coil mode and still have my pickup selector switch be functional? My "electronics for guitarists" book isn't helping and I really want to do this mod.

Is this even possible? I think it is just not quite sure on the particulars. Any help/schematics/drawings would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
P

P,

My understanding is that you can do this, but in addition, you need to either modify (how is that possible though?) or buy an additional part feeding the the DPDT switch, both of which I've never purchased.

What do you have now in the JP center position?? Is this why you're attempting to incorporate the mod?

Send Mitchel an "e" at guitar axecessories, he'll know for sure.

Well, the center position right now is definitely different than your standard center position. However I think what's happened is both humbuckers are in parallel with each other rather than series instead of having JUST coils 2 and 3 in parallel which is what I'm after. It would also be cool to be able to have coils 1 and 4 just for the heck of it.

I have the X2N in the bridge and PAF Pro in the neck. Those pickups are about as different as night and day (which is why I chose them) so I always accredited the difference in sound to that. However, I've attempted this mod on a couple other guitars with paired pickups (such as Steve's Special w/ Air Norton or the D Activator pair) but get a similar sound to my X2N/PAF pair. It's nothing like the JP center position.

I have the Allparts 12 pole switch rather than the DiMarzio switch. Maybe that's got something to do with it? I followed the DiMarzio drawing. I'll give that fellow a call tho :)

The EBMMJP has a PC board on the back of each switch so it's rather pointless to try to compare my other guitar to them. Been there done that
