Help! Odd EQ Question; No Search Luck; Please Bear with Me.

I'll keep it simple (I hope). My Stingray is a 99, H, with 3 band. I perceive an increase in output when I boost my treble knob. Is that weird, normal, or should I not be concerned? Any explaination why would be appreciated. Thanks.

That's sounds right to me. I normally run my high pot in the center notch position. If I want a little extra juice, I simply turned it up a couple of hairs.
 
I'm a bit confused on what the issue is.

If you turn up the treble, I would hope the trebly portion would get louder and you would hear it.

Is there something I am missing? Or a better question, what do you expect to happen?
 
If you were in a studio and you increased any of your Stingray's 3 band EQ while tracing your bass, you would see the overall volume of your track increase. That's what it is supposed to do.

I would hope that the treble knob is not performing the same function as the volume knob.

Same thing would apply if you boosted the low end. It is affecting the overall volume you'd see on the track because the low end is boosted. But it's only boosting those low frequencies, not acting as a overall volume increase. Of course, I could be wrong.
 
I think that no matter which band of eq you use, would create a boost in volume. A little goes a long way too. I remember my last band would harp about me taking it easy when crankin' the eq on my old Ray.

The more eq I boost, the more I reduce the volume knob

The more eq I cut, the more I increase the volume knob

Hence the recommendation for using 75% volume when the eq is flat and adjusting from there.

Yeah, the overall seems louder. That's why I underlined "perceived" in my OP because I wasn't sure if it was simply a perception based on those frequencies boosting or if it was a real-world volume increase.

Shakin'...I'm giving you props as well...a big +1 on this one. I always keep my volume back a bit...like you said, 25% It's like an instant boost pedal. I finally talked my "Set in his ways" guitarist into doing the same, so he has instant boost during his leads.

thanks but the props goes to Big Poppa... he started this whole "don't dime the volume knob" thing :)

I swear by it for active basses with boostable eq

the stingray is very nice because the volume pot is so tight. you can set it at 75% and it will stay there even if you accidentally touch it :)
