Hey guys. I have a question regarding a new to me 2014 SR5 HH.

I noticed that there seemed to be considerable buzz or hum in the second and fourth (from the back) positions of the selector switch. So, I poked around and found that on the second position the front coils of both pickups are on and in the fourth position both rear coils are on. I know from messing around with the wiring on G&L basses that when the pickups are wired this way there is no hum cancelling, hence the hum..
Looking at the diagram on the MM site it looks like it's not supposed to be this way. I lifted up the pickguard and it doesn't appear to have been tampered with. I wonder if it was misswired at the factory. I know MM has such great quality control that I can hardly believe it.
I wonder what your thoughts might be on this. I think if I had a good wiring diagram I could figure out what the issue is and fix it. Either that or I wonder if I could send it to EB and have them fix it for a fee.
Thanks for any help!

A picture of the inside of the bass would be cool. Whenever i buy 2nd hand gear that has been messed with, its clearly visible that someonne changed it (looking at the wiring) so if it looks factory fresh, it propably is.

As far as fixing it, it's up to you. You can do it yourself or ask customer service if you can send it in. Annyway, contact ebmm customer service, they could also hook you up with wiring diagrams, and help you do diagnose the exact problem in wiring.

as far as i remember the pickup wiring should be like this:

neck -- coil1 coil2 -- -- coil3 coil4 -- bridge switch 1-2-3-4-5

position 1: coil 1+2 (series on ceramic pickups, paralell on alnico)
position 2: coil 2+3 (series on ceramic, paralell on alnico)
position 3: coil 1+3+2+4 ((1+3 in paralell) in series with (2+4 in paralell) on ceramic, (1+3 in paralell) in paralell with (2+4 in paralell) on alnico )
position 4: coil 1+4 (series on ceramic, paralell on alnico)
position 5: coil 3+4 (series on ceramic, paralell on alnico)

and to make the confusion complete :)
the 20th anniversary sr5 has a different position 3.. (1+2 in paralell) in paralell with (3+4 in paralell), other than that its the same as the alnico

so if you experience any other behaviour it might have been tampered with. or someone swapped 2 wires when soldering

hth!
