25th wedding anniverary is on the near horizon, so I tell my wife that I want to have a piece of silver jewelry made for her, and she's not surprisingly excited. Then she asks what she can give me. Well, she didn't go for the threeway w/her protoge Becky. Finally, the lightbulb goes off. "I'll get you a silver bass." That's the girl I married! So you can imagine my horror when I go to the "Build a bass" link to see what an inca silver Sterling (new HH, of course) would look like w/rosewood and a matching headstock and discover silver's not an option. So, what do I do? Buying anything other than a Sterling HH is out of the question.

That's easy. Get the bass in a basic color (white, black, natural), and then order a silver, or silver pearl, pickguard.

I'm sure you could probably custom order one painted silver with a matching headstock.

Nope. No Ernie Ball Custom Shop, ergo no custom silver paint job. if it isn't in the color list, it isn't an available color.

Hey Ben, just out of curiousity (and that I've got a P-Bass to pimp out), how much did the body shop paint job cost (paint and labor)? Did you have to take off the original finish, or was that part of the deal?

The guy who did it was a friend of my dad's. I gutted the bass, so all i had to give him was a body. I masked the neck pocket, and he's taking off the finish for me, and then painting it a *gasp* metallic pink (like the bm in the other forums). He's doing it for about $200, which in my opinion is really reasonable, considering I would definately not try to do that myself. It should be done by next week, it looks like it will be for sale, as I need a car. I'll post pics when I get it!
