To be honest, since it was professionally done it doesn't look bad at all. White was the wrong color of pickup to put in it along with the white knob, cream or black would have been MUCH better. I wouldn't have done it to any of my guitars but I don't think it's that bad.

I have to agree, I wouldn't chop shop a nice Axis, perhaps a Silo with a pick guard, fine, but not an Axis!

Yeah, l agree, l think it looks weird with the middle pickup. I wonder if it sounds any good.

I wouldn't do it to one of mine, but it doesn't look like a bad job, and if I had a chance to play it and liked it, I'd buy it (at a suitably reduced price, of course ;))

Well, I think dude customized it to his liking. We have all done that at some point. I think the install looks good, just a bad choice of color. Cream or black would have been the way to go. It is still an Axis and I am sure the tone(s) are great and it gives it more versatility. Something to think about.........

Well, aren't WE a little biased?..... ;)
Actually, to each his own. I personally wouldn't want to mess too much with my axis (and the thought of drilling in new holes makes me queasy).
However, I'm sure SOMEONE must've told Eddie at one time , " WHAT!? You're putting a humbucker in a strat!!?"
It doesn't make the seller an idiot, unless, he expects to get market value back from the guitar. :D
Now, pass the Rotozip!!....... :p

I think even MM guitars are no sanctuary (hey, don't kill me for that ;)), for me guitars are "just" beloved working horses which should fit the player's needs.
So, if s.o. thinks he needs an additional pickup - why not? I do understand that, just take a look at my tinkercaster :D

Idiocy would mean to scratch the EBMM logo off the headstock and write "7ender" on it

a Duckbucker?!? WHY!?!?!? I've customized 3 of my MM's, but nothing involving routing... the most recent is an axis that I put a sustainor next to a DiMarzio cruiser (I think) in the neck position. I had to drill the top to put in the activator for the sustainor and another mini switch to defeat the dimarzio rail pickup out of the series, but it's not that terribly obvious - and the only real sin I committed was to drill 2 holes in the top that can be turned into coil taps if I ever revert it back to normal.

and I find the statement from the seller that he "plays black gospel/blues" somewhat perplexing... would that be like playing "nordic gospel" or "thrash gospel" ?

"gospel" would have been a sufficent enough description, I think.

Agreed. Its his guitar and he can do what he liekd with it. All my guitars have some kind of mod on them. My Sparkly ASS is currently having the 5 way and tone knob taken out, and a regular 3 way put in and the tone knob hole filled. If I had to sell it I accept it isnt original. If I wanted to rout my guitar I would do it. Its a tool first and a work of art 2nd.

Remember, if Steve Morse hadn't modded his Tele, you wouldn't have that collection of pickups on the EBMM Morse model. ;)

What's the big deal?
I think the big deal is that someone tried something new. If they liked it then I am happy for them. They did not conform to the NorM. :)
Who needs an EBMM custom shop when they can do it themselves?

The "Duckbucker" seems to have been chosen because to provide Strat/Tele-type tones. This is a common configuration among many players in Nashville. The Duckbucker is supposed to provide a good bit of "quack".

As to his use of the term "black gospel", I am surprised that you are perplexed. Black gospel is a recognized term that separates it from other types of gospel music such as southern gospel - believe me, the styles are not similar!

I don't find his use of clarifying terms any different than someone using terms such as "Delta blues" or "Chicago blues" to pinpoint a style within a given genre of music.

Of course, your point is taken that a potential buyer may not be too concerned with the seller's specific musical focus.
