Hey guys, new to the forum. I recently scored an 89' MM silhouette. It has a 6 bolt neck plate. Does anyone know if these came from the factory with a finished neck back?? It doesn't appear to be an overspray. Some idiot actually put a couple of string trees on it rather than adding a few more string windings for headstock angle, argh! Anyway, she is a sweetheart of a guitar, I see what you all are raving about. Thanks for the time everyone. Duke

Duke, welcome!! Sounds like a great find. Sorry I can't help you out here, but post a few pictures, it might help.

Every 6 bolt Silo I have ever seen has had a finished neck. I thought it was somewhere around 90-92 that they started the oiled neck thing. It was about the same time as the introduction of the EVH/Axis model.

I'll add to the others - the early EBMMs had satin finished necks. Of course sometimes that type of finish gets pretty glossy with use (depending on how the owner takes care of it). You'll find that the 6-bolt Silos and 6-bolt Morse sigs have that kind of neck.

The oil and wax neck finish (and the 5-bolt neck) were first on EVH sig in 1991; EBMM rolled out the oil and wax and 5-bolt neck to the Silo and Morse either in late 1991 or early 1992.

Didn't know for sure but the wear is to the wood and the stain would be glossy if it were an overspray. I kind of like the lacquer neck, I have played an oiled one and didn't really like it that much. Thanks for the heads up. Duke

The pics are in a folder on my profile. One is a bit blurry, sorry. I will post another when I get a little time.
