OLPlayer came around my hose for a set up on his mex str@t and his olp Trans black axis.

Put it through his Vox and then through my Marshall via the Pod and some kinda boss effects unit.

I tell ya what - it cooked.

I'm not saying it was butter to play - (that'll come after a full set up !) but man those pickups really sang!!

A fantastic guitar for so little bucks.

OLP has posted pictures of it in an earlier thread - check them out.

You want a guitar for knocking about with
GET AN OLP !!!!
Dem are good geetars for the bucks

Edit: Just went out with OLplayer to watch my mates band. His car hit a lampost and had to have his car towed home.
We're both OK , and our guitars weren't in the car  , but sh!t, WE MISSED THA BAND !!!!!!!!

at least you guys are ok! yea, i like my OLP, although i will probably but DiMarzios or duncans in it eventually. my only beef with mine is the neck feels a lot wider compared to my other guitars, which all have slim necks. they really are good guitars though, and they resonate better than anything near that price range

I'm glad you said that about the neck (I couldn't put my finger on it when I played it :D ) - it did feel ........ different.

We really cranked that OLP last night and the stock pickups are really, really good.
We were also going through a POD / boss - but the house (hose!) shook.

Yeah we're both ok - he's off work a bit shook up - me, I'm in work on the net!!

But seriously, those OLP's really are great guitars and I'm seriously thinking of getting one for my son.

Spud "lampost destroyer" Murphy :D

Hey spud-----
scored a OLP vintage sunburst last weekend for 100.00--couldn't resist and I needed a beater for at work. Question----I've tried settin up the vintage trem to float--but it aint really happening. It came set up dive only. Have you ever had any sucess settin one of these up to float? I suspect Id need to put a better trem on there if I wanted to float it. Also---the fretboard was definitely raw but the back of the neck seems to have a slight finish on it. Any idea if the necks are sealed or not(the guitar is new)? Probably gonna sand it and oil and wax it any how. thanx

Hey Pauldogx, Hows that OLP?
100 bucks - it's a give away!
I'll be looking for one at that price this side of the pond.
Trems are not my forte, so I'm not even going to try to answer that one.
There is a forum member caled KEVAN who has invented a trem device - I would guess that he is the expert on this - try PM'ing him.

With regards the neck, I'm going to tape up (Mask) near the nut, and I'm going to take a scotch pad to the whole neck and remove the lacquered finish.
I'll smooth the neck right down using progressively finer and finer wet and dry (I really don't like 0000 grade wire wool) next I get an old piece of cotton material (an old hankerchief) and use Birchwood casey gun stock oil and rub it in(VERY small amount) I'll let it dry back for a couple of hours at room temp, then I'll go over the neck again with some 1600 - 2000 grade wet and dry paper.

I've done this on my Albert Lee and it's as close as you'll get to the factory finish.
If you use the Birchwood casey Gunstock wax after it will give you a very high lustre and will feel great but will not feel like the neck when you get it from the factory. So I would say use the oil only.

The frets were sharp on the edges and this can be caused either by the wood drying out in a centrally heated room, or just poor finishing - hey what ya expect for a hundred bucks !!! lol !!
So once again use a fine wet and dry paper and carefully go along the edges smothing off the sharpness.

Now the fretboard is another kettle of fish !!! Yes it felt totally unfinished, so it needs something.

First I'll clean it up - I think over in the USA you have some "Murphys" wipes (yippee!!) use those to clean the dirt.
I may try a little gunstock oil on the front too, I can't see it doing any harm and will "feed"the wood.
Good luck with the overhaul - let us know how it turns out.

spud --thanks for the info. Sounds like what I had planned as well-----as for the fingerboard------I'm going to use some 0000 steelwool and lemon oil--it will burnish that roughness a bit and clean those frets up as well---I love it on my rosewood boards. If I get some black or gray in the board from the wool---then ill cleanup with the murphys wipes.

ps-----I will own an Albert Lee. It will be my next EBMM---now if I can just find a Gold sparkle............

Getting an Albert eh?
You'll love it. I think the Gold Sparkle looks awesome too , and I'm not a huge lover of sparkles.

The only problem with steel wool is that it sticks to the pickups so you have to tape them up. Also if you get any steel shards in the wood they will rust.
Horses for courses as they say (well at least they do over here! lol.

I'll see my good mate (Mr Dearnaley (allien sex fiends and a damn fine guitar builder) and ask about the lemon oil. I know he uses Baby oil on some fretboards.

I'll post pics when ithe OLP is done but don't hold your breath.
