hi guys

i came across an OLP Luke in a store the other day.

I know there is no comparison between an OLP and the real thing. (that was obvious just picking the thing up!).. but..

I don't know much about the different types of necks, the radius' and all that stuff.. all I can describe is the neck had a definite 'V' type shape to it.. it wasn't a nice radius like my Silhouette Special or Fender Strat.. totally different to anything I've ever picked up before.

So has anyone here played an OLP Luke ? Specifically I want to know if the neck shape is anything remotely similar to that of a real Music Man Luke.

cheers
Dave

I just sold my OLP because I was smart enough to finally get the real thing. What a difference.

The MM Luke in a gig situation is light years ahead of the OLP. The neck shape however was almost the same between the 2 OLPs I had and the real deal. The attention to detail and finish on the neck was much better on the MM version. Close but no cigar.

I felt the OLP was a great intro into MM guitars but the real deal is far better in the places where you are getting paid to lay it down.

I had this OLP before and i find the neck uncomfortable for me. It's harder that the real thing. i bought this to have a back-up guitar but I had a hard time playing it. I tried to trim it down but later decided to sell it! Now I prefer using a SUB1 for a back-up. Try to save money then buy then buy the real one. Hey there's a lot of LUKEs on sale here in the forum!

thanks guys..
oh i'm certainly not interested in buying an OLP.. i want a real LUKE, but i've never played one and am hesitant buying one having never played it.

i found the OLP neck very 'pointy' (which i think is what the first reply from Luc is referring to) and it was very uncomfortable.. which made me wonder "crap, what if the real Luke neck is anything like that shape"

I would definitely get my hands on one to play first before doing anything too drastic.

Personally, I LOVE the neck on the luke. Love it!!!

But for as many people that love it, there are a few that just don't dig the 'soft v' vibe. It feels tailor made to me :)

You should track one down and have a noodle and go from there... Hey if you don't like it there are a heap of other option around here ;)

Let us know how you go

thats that hard part ;) here in Oz there's so few around. none, and i mean none, of the stores stock any music man guitars. every dealer here has zero stock and simply order on customer request.

the only music man instruments any stores stock are the basses (which are also killer i might say!). i bought my sillhouette special sight un-seen, but knew that the neck on that was fairly standard in shape so wasn't too concerned. I guess coming across the OLP Luke kinda freaked me out into thinking i may not like the Luke neck.

If you can track down an Ovation dealer, some of the Celebrities have a V shape. Not exactly the same, but similar. Pete pointed this out when I was playing the different models, then brought over the Ovation as a comparison.

I do agree that it is always best to be able to play the exact model first, if you can. You can learn a lot in a minute of playing.
