Tuesday I received my new OLP LUKE. First thing out of the box I notice that the color is very nice. It is a dark blue with faint sparkles. The color is about like a pearl blue with a tad more green in the mix. You can tell that the finish was applied without alot of love but still looks good enough to me. Ipicked it up and you notice it has a more pronounced V than the MM Luke. I think most of the reason for this is it is about a 1/4" thicker. The neck has a satin finish that needed some sanding to get smooth but not alot. The Truss rod needed a little adjusting to get some very anoying fret buzz at the second fret to go away. After doing that it played great.
The pickups are active/passive. They use a battery but work well with out it. They use 500K pots so I dont know what is up with them. There is a slight volume drop with out the battery but still have the same tone. The single coils sound very full and round and the humbucker has lots of muscle with singing sustain. The pickups are worth keeping!!
The trem is a MM copy with the arm screwing in. The trem block is your standard wimpy import style but works smothly and strings stayed in tune.
I have done some things to it already namely: put an actual EBMM vintage trem on it, Put locking planet waves tuners in place of the non locking ones, I also ordered an EMG SL-20 pickup set and should already be here so hopefully they will get here tomorow. I personaly dont think this is necessary as the stock pickups sound really good but I ordered them before I received it.
I have to say this is a good bargain even with the extra cost of upgrades. The trem and tuners were 100 bucks and the pickups were 200 but not needed so for 400 dollars you have a good playing instrument that you dont cry over if it gets a ding. Well I am not good at this kind of thing so hopefully I have covered all the bases.
