A friend bought one of those with a quilt top for his son. I normally play an Albert Lee, but I have no qualms using that OLP when I'm at his house. It's not EB quality, but for the price it's a good, servicable, fun to play guitar.

The pickups have a nice sound, thought the volume difference between the 2 is fairly pronounced...

I'm not completely sure what you mean by "Is it worth it?"

Is it worth the price? Sure. It think it's a pretty good value. I can't speak first hand about the pickup tone because I've never plugged one in. I've played a few at GC though ant they seemed fine. I really like that they're different than all the Strat Clones in the same price range.

I guess what I'm wondering is what you're after in a guitar. Are you looking for a cheap, good looking, decent playing, kick around guitar? Absolutely, it's worth it.

Or are you looking for a serious axe that will be an old stand by for years? It could be that I suppose but I wouldn't go into it with intention.

Another thing you need to keep in mind is that it the neck isn't like the Axis. In fact it's more like the Wolfgang neck than the Axis neck. It's fairly wide and has a 15" radius. So don't buy one thinking "Wow! I finally have my Axis and didn't have to pay $1k+ for it!" It plays well and you may actually prefer the feel I suppose, but it isn't the same as an Axis.

I hope this helps. I think for the money the OLP's are a real value and you could have a lot of fun with one. They're just not the Holy Grail.

good luck

I was also looking at the MM4. Would that be the better choice since I do have smaller hands.

I will tell you IMHO that they are the best playing sounding $179 guitar out there.
if you really want to get it up to way above average par get a set of dimarzios(air zone/air norton) and a better bridge then it is a
guitar for under $400

When I get one of these guitars (please help:D ) I would def. put some Dimarzios. Just need help on which one to pick.

I'll just say that this morning I finally played one through an amp. I stand by my previous comments but must add that in no way did it feel like I was playing my EVH. The tone was only a little similar. And the tonal difference between the neck and bridge pickups was there but nowhere near as defined as the EBMM.

Certainly it is a decent value for the price and I would buy one before I bought a Squire. But IMO they really aren't truly comparable to the Axis in any other way than appearance.

I figured that for the price that they would be nothing like an EVH. I still think that its a good value though:D

OLP

Guys, I sell the OLP line and FOR THE MONEY, I repeat, FOR THE MONEY, they are a great quality bass and guitar..even their new Spector copies! They are getting ready to come out with a J. Petrucci and Benji Madden (Good Charlotte) model now. Very nice looking!! These are great alternatives to the Strat copies for approx. $250-$399. Can't wait to get my shipments in!

Very much worth the money. Had mine almost 18years, its been left in rain (accidentally), dropped, thrown around, you name it....and plays and sounds great. Get one if you can.

I had a student with an OLP and it was AWESOME for the money. I had two students buy the SUB1 guitars, which were incredible values.

I remember playing it when it came out. Frets were pretty small. Pickups were great for the price. Tone was amazing. So was neck shape.
