OLP vs Axis neck thickness

I'm pretty new to the forum and maybe this has been discussed ad infinitum, but does anyone prefer the slightly thicher neck on the OLP than the Axis?

I'm in the market for a SS but I just seem to get a better grove going with the OLP neck...

I own Axes, and I've owned an OLP, and the necks are completely, completely different! If a generic, C-shape Korean neck with a flat radius and barely competent fretwork turn you on, then go ahead and play the OLP - certainly, it's a decent guitar for the $$$. But there is no way, in the wildest imagination of the most deranged Opium fiend, that an OLP neck can be compared to an Axis neck. It's like comparing a Tercel to Ferrari Scaglietti! This whole "I prefer the cheap-o axe" thing may be semi-defensible on the basis of personal preference (I mean, if you want to play a Danelectro rather than a PRS, go ahead), but frankly, if you think an OLP neck is "better" - or even "as good" - in any way (materials, build quality, feel, finish) when compared to an Axis neck, you're just plain wrong! And that's the simple truth.

Now if you're looking for a real EBMM with a neck that's somewhat similar in basic profile to the OLP, the Silhouette comes closer than the Axis...

I don't think he was comparing the build quality of the Axis compared to the OLP (in which case, you are right and there is no denying it!... ), I just think he likes a thicker neck as provided on an OLP.

Personally, I owned an OLP and for the $$$, was a decent garbage guitar for me to take out on the road and leave my more expensive JP's at home. However, when played against an Axis, I personally like the Axis.

As for the feel......that would be personal preference. If you like a thicker neck like the one on the OLP...play it. But, you will certainly sacrifice in all other areas of guitar specs like tone, versatility, set up and everything else imaginable.

I also see you want to buy an Axis SS.....that is a good thing. I think you will get used to the neck and be a much happier person in the end. OLP's are not in the same game as an EBMM in which point JimiD is 100% accurate. Just my 2 pennies.

Another thing to think about: the neck on the OLP is hardly unique. It may have it's own feel to an extent, but there are many guitars out there with a 15" radius and some beef. What I'm saying is you aren't limited to the OLP if you like that neck.

I do a lot of combo flatpicking/finger picking...seems the slightly larger/flatter neck helps...however, I didn't like the OLP neck at first and got used to it now...I'm sure I can adapt the other way...I also want to use the guitar for pure fingerpicking and strumming via the piezo and am a bit worried the smaller neck width won't help that...I play a Godin LGX now that serves both purposes but the neck is just to darn thin..more like an Ibanez (yuck!)
