Looking at getting a JP6 and was wondering about the frets. I haved played a Ibanez with jumbo frets for some time before switching to a EB Axis, the Axis is unreal. Now I want another EB and I am looking at the JP6, the frets are listed as high profile/wide on the EB site. Can anyone tell me if the jumbo frets on the Ibanez models compare in size to the EB high profile/wide? I really don't care for the jumbo frets, I really like the medium frets on the Axis, are the frets on the JP6 much bigger than the Axis and could they be considered jumbo? Also I have the serial # for the JP6, G19640. Can anyone tell me the year it was made and which pup is in the bridge? Thanks

The frets on my JP6 felt smaller than the 6100s on my Ibby - and certainly smaller than the 6000s on my Yngwie Strats. It's still a fairly big wire though... Since you like the frets and neck on the Axis, I suggest that you consider the good old Silhouette, which is much closer to what you (seem to) like.

Cheers

Thanks Pablo. Does anyone know the number (6105, 6150) used on the JP6?
Thanks

I don't know what number the fret wire is, but I agree that they feel smaller than those on an RG Ibanez.

I'm new here but have been reading a lot about the EB's so I tried the Axis, it's incredible and I love the neck and feel of it. As the norm I want another one. I have been looking at the Axis SS for the different tones I can get which also has the same neck as the Axis, but I have a couple of options to get the JP and am a little aprehensive to get a guitar I've never played. I'm looking for a good metal tone and between the two does the JP have a edge over the ASS for metal work or can the ASS give me the same tones and then some? Also is the JP in mystic dream a good color choice, does it really reflect different colors? Thanks

After checking the bridge PUP I have learned it is a earlier model without the D-Sonic, doesn't this give me a little more darker tone towards metal?

The JP will not disappoint you. The JP neck is what a wizard neck wishes it could be. It really has no bad points.

zeppelin buddy, you've got to find one to play in order to know if the JP (or Silo or...) neck is for you. At least I did.

Our local GC had a JP6 and I'd go in and play it often. I then got lucky and got to borrow one from #1 son's friend for a couple of weeks, and that's when I fell in love with it.

The neck took some getting used to for me, but once it "clicked" for me it was amazing. I could never have imagined it by reading the specs, though... I had to actually play it.

Thanks for all the help. I have been looking locally for a JP to try but so far no luck. Perhaps I'll wait until I can play one before spending the money but it is a very appealing peice and I really like the contour of the body and finish. Thanks again.

Hey Zepp,
You might want to consider that JP did switch from ibanez to Ernie Ball, so if any Ernie Ball is going to make your transition easier it will probably be the JP. I have to say that the JP has, by far, the fastest neck I've ever played on, and that includes many, many Ibanezes.
As for the contour, it's a gift straight from heaven. And since no one has answered your quesion about Mystic Dream, let me be the first to say you won't regret it. It's the coolest thing ever!!! It reflects an amazing number of colors. I'm gonna post some pics of mine just to suck you in. I don't feel guilty about this, you'll love this guitar. Sorry if it takes a while to load.

Hey man thanks for the pics!! The color changes are awesome and this is exactly what I was wondering, in one pic it looks green, unreal. I think youv'e sold me on this and the neck I'm sure will not be a problem coming from the Ibanez. EBMM's are truely addictive aren't they!! One more thing, is the piezo option worth it, do you use it much? Thanks again Greenwizard

I had a weird relationship with the piezo. I hadn't tried it when I ordered my guitar but I didn't want to look back and thing "Man this guitar would be perfect if I just had the piezo." When I got the guitar the piezo didn't work very well at all. The signal kept cutting out. Since I live in kuwait I couldn't send it back to the factory so I lived without it for a few months. Just this summer I sent it in to SLO to fix it, and they did it in one day (EB Customer Service ROCKS!!!!!!) and I got it back. Now I've had the piezo equipped guitar for about a month.
It's amazing! That's the easiest way to put it. I haven't had a chance to put it through an acoustic amp but even through clean settings on solid states it just shines. If you're just looking to get an acoustic sound try an acoustic simulator pedal. If you're looking for jaw dropping acoustic tones get the piezo.
As for if I use it, I like to take a break from shredding or rocking out and play smooth chordy arpeggiated stuff. If you're playing a gig, it's nice to put in something to get everyone waving their lighters around. Times like that, it's handy to have the piezo.
And to answer your one other question: Yes, EBMM's are extremely addictive! =)
Good luck, and feel free to ask any more questions,
Greenwizard

Zepplin -

I don't see that anyone's addressed your first post's last question ("Also I have the serial # for the JP6, G19640. Can anyone tell me the year it was made and which pup is in the bridge?). I e-mailed my serial no. to EB and they sent me ALL of the info within an hour. As I'm sure you've heard here and elsewhere, EB's customer service is truly outstanding.
