On a non trem Super Sport, can you still bend notes by grabbing the bridge ....

I am looking at buying a Supersport, but really would kind of like to have the trem.

Also, is there a huge volume drop between the humbucker position and the single coil position? Do the single coils have the quiet circuitry like the MM90 guitars?

Is $900 a good price for a near mint, non trem with a nice top?

I wouldn't suggest grabbing a bridge thats a hardtail and pulling it upwards. Even though it is screwed into the top. You could just get an Axis Super Sport that has a vintage trem. As far as the MM90's go, I've never played an ASS with MM90's. Also, I think that $900 for a near mint Axis with a good top is stellar. I'd jump on it. What color is it?

I think that if a trem is a must have for you, then it might be better to wait for one to come along that really suits.

I don't think that you can grab the hardtail like you mention and I wouldn't want to try it myself. For some very mild drops in pitch, you may be able to exert a little pressure to the back of the headstock to lower the pitch, but again, it's not how I'd want to do it (I've seen it done on acoustics and Les Paul's)

Are you talking about the volume drop when you select positions 2 and 4 with the HH model? There is a wiring diagram on the site (I can't remember where) which shows you which coils are split in those positions. I think that in position 4 (nearest the neck) it activates the inner coils on each and in position 2 (nearest the bridge) it's the outer two. I'm not 100% certain of this, but if you look at the main site, you should be able to find the diagram

I've not noticed a significant drop in volume when using these positions, although it does clean things up very well. There is no silent circuit active on the coil splits, as you don't get a single coil on it's own, it's always with a coil from the other pickup.

There is no Silent Circuit on a HH ASS..Jimmy B is right, it coil split

Well, hopefully that won't be too much of a prob.

I think my plan is to buy this guitar and if I really like it, sell the Axis. I normally play a SG, so I don't use the trem that much anyway.

I'm going to have to disagree with the volume drop bit. There is a noticeable drop in volume on the 2 and 4 switch positions when playing clean or with low gain. That seems to make sense with what happens when switching to those positions - humbuckers with coils in series going to singles in parallel.

With the natural compression associated with dirtier sounds, it's not as noticeable. With mid-to-high gain, you can get some really nasty, biting sounds with 2 and 4 (which I really dig).

Weird how different people hear different things....

I really like 2 and 4 for clean sounds, like some Gilmour stuff and prefer using the bridge for the more biting sounds.

Still, it's all good.

These seemed to have gone way up in price. I'm probably going to sell the axis since I can get good buckage out of it
