i dont mess around with the EQ that much..
when i play with a pick its usually bass all the way up, mid in the middle and treble all the way up.
when i play with fingers i like to get a warm sound so i just take the trebel down and put bass and mid all the way up.
and sometimes i just put all knobs all the way up to get some punch.

my amp is set to bass all the way up, mid in the middle and treble all the way up.

MMSR5 Fretless w/ Super Slinky Round Wounds:
Usually:
Low - 50%
Mid - 80%
High - 60%

My Mesa 400+ and 1x15 & 4x10 has lots of warm natural beef in the low end and I really like the midrange mwah that I get with this setting:D
Sometimes depends on the song too.

Depends what I'm doing at the time.

Usually Low 75% - 100%; Mid 50%; Treble 50%

Yeah, I know this probably isn't the best thread to ask, but does anyone know what the EQ settings Flea has on the Chili's earlier stuff, like Freaky Styley? I've been trying to get that sound for ages.

Right now mine are : Treble 100% Mid 100% Bass 50%

Could anyone help

I haven't heard old RHCP in years, but it might be the classic extreme slap SR setting:

HI: 100% MID: 0% LOW: 100%

Agreed. This should be pretty close. I always cut the MID, personally I find its value limited and the sound annoying at best. I should have stuck with 2eq.

I think Flea used a Spector on the early stuff (certainly on 'Mofo')

Bass on 80%

High on 50-60%
of the knobs ..

i dont like to turn it all the way

Nobody cuts their highs?

One of the best things about a Stingray is that you can fool around with ALL the tone controls. In the past few months, I was trying to get a more old school tone out of my 'Ray, so I switched to flatwounds, and cut the highs to get more of a (dare I say this) Jazz bass tone, something similar to bassist Ira Newborn's tone on the first Manhattan Transfer album. http://www.tmtfanclub.com/manhat.html

I found a site with sound clips, but you really can't hear the bass that well. His tone sounds very Jazz bass sixties-ish: Pretty much flat bass and mids, but the highs sound like they're rolled almost all the way off, so I tried it - MUCH SATISFACTION WAS FOUND! :D

So, if you're interested, try these settings:

1) Bass - about 80%
2) Mids - between 40 - 80% your taste
3) Highs - between 0 - 20%

I know this might sound strange, but give it a try. You just might like what you hear.

BTW, I never put anything at 100%. I guess I'm just the cautious type. :D

Hey there, I stumbled on an interesting discovery--
cutting the eq is more helpful to my tone than boosting.
Phil Lesh's setup was revealed in Bass Player Magazine (which is where I got the idea). He says "you get a more coherent sound if you don't boost." Interesting. I put it to the test, and so far, it sounds awesome!
My rig is an Ashdown 2x10 combo, so boosting just seems to overpower the wee little 10 inchers in the cab. With the controls cut all the way, it emulates a passive circuit (somewhat) and lets the eq section on the amp do all the work, allowing the amp to breathe a bit (albeit you're gonna have to tweak and experiment with this whole new realm of possibilities).
