shamus63 said:I've always wondered about mixing two cabs with different ohm ratings (one @ 4; one @ 8), and what the end result would be...hopefully not negative for the bass head.
Reason I'm asking is that I'm picking up an SWR 8x8 rated @ 4ohms, and want to pair it up with a Mesa-Boogie RR 1x15, which is rated @ 8ohms (need the bottom-end filled out). In fact, most of the 1x15 cabs I've seen (or at least want) are rated @ 8hms.
Any electricians want to jump in on this one?
Thanks for the input Mark! Since I haven't actually listened to the 8x8 yet (at $300, I wasn't worried about testing it), I haven't been able to assess whether or not I would actually need the 1x15 to fill out the bottom-end.Aussie Mark said:An 8 ohm and a 4 ohm cab in parallel will give you a total load of around 2.6 ohms, with the 8 ohm cab receiving 1/3 of the amp's wattage, and the 4 ohm cab the other 2/3. Actual volume distribution between the cabs will depend on the respective sensitivity ratings of the two cabs.
Having said that, the SWR Henry 8x8 has a frequency response down to 35hz, so there's no need to add a 1x15. Henry has all the bottom end you'll ever need, and is one of the best all round cabs available.
