hello everyone, I need some advice on the Mesa/Boogie venture 2X10 combo amp. I wanted a beefy combo amp that will have the bottom and power that I need to replace my current set-up mentioned below in my sig. I tried this thing in the store and it sounded like it had a 15" in it, the store owner told me if I look at the specs those 10's go down in freq. almost as far as the 15" (which is not being made anymore) did and they sound alike.

this amp also comes in a 2X12 now but they didn't have one in the store so heres my dilema I really wanted it so I bought it after bringing one of my rays to the store and playing through it I loved it, the store said I can exchange this combo amp on thursday after practice if I don't like it which is fine but you guys may know alot more about this amp and help me out with better info than my untrained ears will do on thursday night. I can't find any reviews on it (only the 12" model) and I'm wondering if someone out there knows this amp and can vouch for it and will this combo with the 10's work as a stand alone cab with my music and only one guitar player . my music is I guess a street style rock and this amp may fit in well but who knows...

I want my stuff to be heard and felt and not mudded into the mix like it has been with the classic cabs. it seems since I have been playing stingrays I didn't care for my sound like I used to when I used a washburn EXB45 and 76 ripper.

I'm not trying to get people to check out my bands music but if ya want right when you get to my bands website theres a song on so you can hear that one tune without going any further, you will hear the mushy sounding bass but honestly that was a rough digital recording at practice just for gig purposes to start booking shows, I'm playing through the stuff in my sig below and using the 99 SR (the duncan P-ups are more mid sounding) and thats pretty close to what I'm getting for live sound. as always thank you for any advice or opinions.. Ted

I played through their flagship bass rig (400+) for quite sometime until I found another SVT I could afford.

my take on boogie bass amps; they need to stick to guitar amps cuz their bass amps sound like guitars should be playing through them... very thin and not much on the bottom end.

I dont think your classic cabs are your problem with your mudd tone... I would start with replacing the GK with a real amp like the amp your cabs were made for.

just my (not so) humble opinion...

thanks for the posts,,,,as for the right head I can own anything I want but I was warned by a few people here to stay away from Ampeg heads especially with my MM basses, Aguilar, Eden, Mesa, SWR, GK, Trace, to only name a few is what EB basses deserve!
but anyway I wanted a bad azz combo amp and this 600watt mesa combo amp I think will beat any ampeg head in the sound department alone I'm sure ;)

is that SVT the heavy one with the tubes or the lighter one in thats mounted in the same box.... earlier in my experience of visiting these forums I was PM'd by a bunch of People telling to stay away from them because I could get better sound from other brands. I was also told the ampeg heads are very fragile and cannot be banged around, our older shows got real crazy sometimes and I've had my GK head get pulled off my stack and slam to the floor twice because of people running up on stage and tripping on the cord and the awesome thing is I played through the whole thing both times and the head never cut out or clipped and by hearing the bass you'd never know the head just banged off the floor.

anyway tonite I'll try this mesa cab and if My band don't like it I can bring it back to the store for something else, he has Ampeg, Boogie, and Hartke to choose from so we'll see what happens.

The svt is the heavy one with tubes. Drop that thing on the floor and your night is shot. Unless you get lucky for some reason. But those things are tone monsters with more volume than youll ever need.

Sorry - I'm one of the 15 lurkers..
I never tried the MB Combo but I
do like SWR Super Redhead and
Eden Metro 2x10 combos. Haven't
tried the Eden w/my 5 strings . . .
my redhead does not handle the B so well.
Handles the 4's with no problem at
decent volumes. The Metro's have had
some quality issues and my experience
with SWR is all pre-Fender.

15 looks and nobody knows anything---->
i remember reading review of the Venture 2x10 in a Bass Guitar World mag a while back - they seemed to like it a lot, especially its large reserves of power...

and if its anything to go by, the guys at Bassplayer Mag really like the Mesa Scout and a few other Mesa bits and pieces... :)

well finally got a chance to play this Amp last night with my band and my ears are still ringing cause I left the ear plugs out this night so I could hear it but anyway this one combo amp with only two 10" speakers totally blew away my ampeg cabs with the GK head on them.... BUT, I won't knock the ampeg cabs just yet cause what I will do before I put them on consignment is unplug the mesa speakers from the head and plug in the classics after I get the settings where I like them and see then how the ampeg cabs compare.

this cab has alot of stuff on it I am not used to but for now I'm going with one of many factory settings. I don't think this cab would be right for a 5-string bass unless you strung it High-C but with my SR4 it sounded like a 15 with lots of bottom, we noticed right away you could feel it with this cab I think this cab has lower frequencys than the GK400? everyone in my band gave a thumbs up and said don't return it! I played like crap though cause of all the sweating I couldn't move my fret hand around cause it was sticking like glue (anyone else have this problem) and this new amp got me busted everytime

this mesa cab is heavy but I still will get a matching 1X15 for the bottom just for the studio and it looks killer. this saturday I'll run my 92 ray through it which has the duncan P-up in it and a better sounding mid (to me anyway) than the stock EB's and then I'll know if I bought the right amp... as always thanks for the posts and thanks to Mesa Boogie for building an awesome friggen combo amp..
