I realise this has probably been posted before, but I am pretty new to this forum and I have got loads of exams at the moment so don't have time to seach through thousands of previous pages for the same thing.

Anyway

I would like to order myself another Silhouette, but I live in the UK. How do I go about with choosing my specs etc., getting it made and then getting it delivered. I actually live in the Channel Islands where we pay no VAT either if that has any bearing!

I've looked at the EBMM site, and unless I've overlooked it I havn't been able to find a way for me to design to the specs I want, and then also get it sent to the UK.

The other thing is, on the EBMM website, when choosing specs for the Silhouette, there is no option for HH pickups which is what I currently use on my Silo. Is there no way to have HH instead of HSH because I don't really want a single middle pup?

Also, I'd like to know the kinda of price these "built for your preferences" usually go for. I'm thinking of something along the lines of the fading blue colour, matching headstock, tremolo, piezo, HH pickups (if possible).

If anyone can help me out please reply. Again I do apologise if this is asked over and over again.

Thanks, Nick

Hi nick
Your best bet would be to contact one of the bigger stores advertised in Guitarist or similar - when I ordered my Silo Sprcial, I ordered through Coda. You can get their e-mail address online - tell them what you want and they will give you a price and approx waiting time. I found them to be really good and the waiting time was actually a little less than quoted. In terms of ordering specific pickup combinations, only what is on the web-site is available - def a good idea to go with the piezo - you will not believe how good it sounds. Good luck with your new axe :)

Nick,

Two humbuckers are not an option for the Silhouette or the Silhouette Special. So basically, you can't order one that way.

As for where to buy, Music Man dealers in the US cannot sell overseas, so you will most likely be reffered to Strings'n'Things, the UK distributor. Or you can contact Beth ([email protected]), the infamous international rep, and see where she might direct you. ;)

Good luck, and good choice!

there are lots of good sounding humbuckers that will fit in a single coil slot.

Thanks for the replies so far. I realise I said that I'd prefer to get a Silo without the middle humbucker, but that's generally because I have been used to playing guitars that have only the two pickups. What kind of tone with the extra pickup have to offer if I go for that - I am under the imprssion that different guitar manufacturers, how do i say it, have different pickup configurations (I think) so I'm interessted in how EBMM have their HSH pick up configuration.

Jimmy, if you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost for your Silo Special, because I'd guess that the price of your guitar and the one I'd like made are fairly similar?

Nick,

Here is a link to the Silhouette HSH schematic on the EBMM site:

You could always get another pickguard and remove the single coil on a new one if you didn't like it and didn't want to leave the empty hole.

I had great luck specing out my Silo Special from my dealer and getting a great guitar; I'm in the USA but you should have just as good luck with the dealers in the UK.

You're also not going to find a blueburst on a SILO...just the Morse or an Axis in Pac Blue Burst...but fear not there are some awesome colors available...also as mentioned you will only find HSH, fixed bridge or trem, maple or rosewood board, and matching or non matching headstock...theres your options....the color list is just a click away as well.

tommy and John C raise good points... you could change or remove the middle pickup.

Personally, on an HSH guitar I like the sound of the single coil + the neck pickup for clean sounds... usually one click toward the neck from the center swtich position. (I'm not sure how they number 5-ways.. it would be position '2' if numbered from the neck toward the bridge).

Agreed. I probably record 80% of my clean stuff in this very position on my Ibanez.

I'll send you a private message on the price - jon gets grumpy if we post dealer prices on the board :)
