Hey folks,

Im just waiting on my tax return to order a MM Axis or MM Axis SS. Still torn on which one. I have a Wolfgang with a Floyd and even though I like it...1 guitar with a floyd is probably enough. I wanted one of the new Wolfgangs but 3 grand? I dunno about that.

Anyway, when I order my trans Blue axis or axis SS I want to get one with a quilt top. I like flame tops but I already have a couple of guitars with flame tops. Is this just luck of the draw with these or can I specify? Is it more expensive? I have noticed that some MM guitars have a very figured maple neck..some are plain. Is that something you can specify too?

I am in Maine and I really only have a couple of places I can order from. Guitar Center and a small mom-n-pop place in Wells. Should I go with a big chain or the small place? How long do the take to receive after ordering?

Any help would be great. Thanks!

Trans Blue Axis and Super Sport are pretty common you might be able to locate one in someones store stock and have it delivered to you. Otherwise if you order one to have built for you through a dealer it will take many months.

Try plugging your zip code into the dealer locator and see if there are any nearer to you. There are a few dealers on the forum here too that are highly recommended.

I believe you can only specify flame or quilt on BFR models, and birdseye would be luck of the draw. Someone will be along to clarify.

Angelus,

Welcome to the forum! Generally speaking, the Axis and Axis SuperSport model will always come with a select maple neck (birdseye). While the amount of birdseye varies from neck to neck, it will be there! As far as flame/quilt goes, the only way to select the figure is by getting the BFR model, which has a different combination of body woods and a different choice of colors. The BFR is priced closer to the other new model you mentioned.

Another thought for you might be the 25th Anniversary - if you don't mind getting a guitar in red. It comes with a chambered basswood body with mahogany tone block, and contoured figured maple top. The body shape is based on the Axis, but is slightly larger. The neck profile is based on the Silhouette. You can get the 25th Anniversary guitar with a hardtail or tremolo, and you have a choice of flame or quilt. A figured/birdseye neck rounds it out. The 25th is priced right between the regular Axis and the Axis BFR.

Right now fresh orders are estimated to ship in April.

I hope that helps!

I am overseas (Japan), so online is the only way to go for me unless I want to pay twice as much. I enquired this question to Musiciansfriend.com,...asked them if I could order a guitar ( Axis SS ) in another color not offered by musiciansfriend.com but offered by the manufacturer,...no special colors or anything. MF said they could do it,...it would cost an added 100.00 and they would have to charge the whole amount once the order was placed, but they said they could do it. So, if I wanted to order an Axis SS hard tail w/ a rosewood fretboard in either Trans-blue or Black Cherry,..they said they could do it. Not sure where you are at or how long an order like this would take to arrive to you,...but this is an option for customers according to MF. I'd contact their customer service department.

By the way,...I'm not a Floyd guy either,...I think you would deifnately like the tuning stability and sound of an Axis SS hardtail.:D

TuneTown is an awesome shop - definitely more knowledgeable folks than the GG's in Nashua or Portland (IMHO). Last I knew they were going to put a cafe in the place too - I wonder if that happened. Also, I think I recall seeing an Axis at the Nashua GC last September (2008). May want to give them a call....

It's technically not trans blue, but how about Pacific Blue Burst?

(sorry, I love this guitar and the color)

The place I got mine had another Axis (not SS) in Pacific Blue Burst with a nice birdseye neck/board. You might want to give them a call to see if they still have it. Wild West Guitars - New Guitars and Amps Good luck!

Thanks. Not really a fan of the blue burst though. I like the non-burst colors more. Kinda odd cuz I love burst on Les Pauls.

Hello fellow New Englander! I've yet to check out Tune Town although a fella I grew up with worked there for a couple of years.

He was asking if he can specifically order quilt on a regular trans blue Axis. The answer is no - EB pulls a maple top from the top of the pile and that's what goes on the guitar. Musician's Friend may be able to order a trans blue Axis, but it would still be luck of the draw as to if it comes in quilt or if it comes in flame.

I guess I should have said that MF can order anything already made by the manufacturer,.( ie not custom)....so if EB doesn't make the Axis w/ a quilt top, then that would be a no. That would be a custom or I suppose,. .... Sounds like looking for a unicorn, it just doesn't exist. I don't have the specs open right now, what about the BFR? The tops look much different that the regular Axis....

I thought there would be more around, I did find one on Amazon with a crazy looking top and a floyd.

[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Music-Man-Humbucker-Fretboard-Headstock/dp/B001ISKO3G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1233166507&sr=8-2]Amazon.com: Music Man Axis, Floyd Rose, Two Humbucker, Trans Blue, Maple Fretboard with Matching Headstock, Maple Top: Musical Instruments[/ame]

Not sure how reliable it is though. Amazon sells guitars directly?
