I'm still messing around with solo playing. I'm just a beginner and had no lesson's, so solo songs like "Neil Zaza - I'm Alright" are a little bit too difficult for me. My question is if anyone has any advice on easier songs to get started?

Thanks in advance! :)

Learning to read TAB. If you have any trouble just ask.

For learning a great techinique try Satriani's Midnight.

Learn Mode Theroy. Almost anything can be traced back to that. It's just 7 scales.

Practice alternate picking. That makes anything playable.

Find a song you want to learn and learn that.

Most Important! Always finish your practice by playing something fun.

That is a great question.

"I want to be sedated" by the Ramones. You only have to hit the open high "e" for like 8 bars.

but, seriously, I would try something slow and melodic like a Pink Floyd solo. it will teach you to let a note breath and teach some nice phrasing.

+1

Try the two solos in "Comfortably Numb" (solo is major and the outro is minor). They're beautifully done, and definately something that a beginner with some dedication can learn.

The first solo I learned is from Hotel California. It's long, and there's a lot going on, but nothing by itself is too hard if you slow it down. I just took it bit by bit and memorized and then sped it up.
BTW, I think the most important thing to do after you perfect a solo is to tweak it and make it your own. Develop your own soloing style and you'll be all set, the technical side will come with time.

The first solo I learned was "Ain't talking bout love" by van halen...pretty easy if you just learn the basic melody line of the solo and don't necessarily try to get the double string thing.
I also agree that a lot of the stuff from Satriani's surfing with the alien album.

You tube is also a GREAT tool to be able to watch people play the tune.

work out what exactly you want to do on the guitar.depending on the sort of player you want to be.if you want killer technique then you,ll have to spend alot of time on work on your chops with lots of different exercises to build up speed and accuracy.use ametronome and work everything up slowley including songs that you learn and licks.even at the start just strumming chords to ametranome and tapping your foot to asteady beat will do you wonders.it works for me.

Depending on your tastes...Have a look through Toto's back catalogue for some of Luke's stuff. He's done some really tasty, melodic stuff...that "playing for the song" approach that some players bypass on their way to becoming shredders. Eg "Think I Could Stand You Forever", "Rosanna", "Without Your Love". You may come across the occasional fast run, but just take it slow at first, the speed will come in time.

Just my 2 cents.

Huey was all over MTV when I was a young lad:)

   I used to play that solo too
(At least that Huey Lewis & the News guy seemed to know how to play for the song rather than the ego ;) )

I hear ya, I think his name is Chris Hayes or something like that, I thought he had a pretty solid sound for that style of music, his solos always sounds cool to me....kinda in the vein of Elliot Easton where everything really fit the song nicely

The first solo I learned was "Way Beyond Empty", by Zakk Wylde. It was an acoustic guitar solo, but good practice for me then. Oh, and practice your bends. Please. Practice. Your. Bends. :D

Solo from "Silent Lucidity" is great to play. The rest of the song is good for working on finger picking if you want some practice on that.

The solo from "Would" by Alice in Chains is very simple. It constitutes 1 of 3 songs that I can actually play the solo.

The other two are "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" (VH) and "Won't Get Fooled Again - Live" (also by VH).
