I have no experience whatsoever with amps and was wondering if you guys could help me pick out a combo amp thats under $800 that would be good for slap/funk. My stingray HH is coming in soon and I need a decent amp to truly unleash the sound of the ray.

I've been looking at some ampeg combos and they look decent but dont know if they make good funk amps. I plan on getting a markbass amp once I get the money but right now I need a good amp until I save up enough.

Thanks.

markbass and GK rate really high around here. Try those to start, make sure you try eden too. That is my pick. If you just want something cheap that will "do" for now. Look into yorkville, their 200W 2x10 is nice.

You can probably pick up a used set up for around 800 With some of the better names. Consider not going with a combo and rather an ebay'd head with a 210 markbass cab(I think they are cheapish in the US) GK backline head or something, that way you'll have atleast 1 part of the rig you want already...

remember the poor man pays twice.

+1 to what MCB said minus the Backline head. I'm a HUGE GK fan and I honestly can't stand the backline series. Is it decent for the money? I suppose. Although, you'd be much better off saving up and getting a higher end head.

Or a MarkBass combo. MAN do those things sound good.

ampeg!!!

I had a b100r that I loved. single 15 speaker, 100watts, solid state. It had a really warm, almost tube like sound, that was awesome for jazz and funk. I only sold it to finance my new rig. I loved that amp. they look really cool and classic too. I sold mine for $350, you should be able to find one used in that range. not a lot of $ for a great sounding practice and small gig amp. I think the guy I sold it to actually uses it to record in studio.

Hartke is usually the eh... brand
Though i know some people who like them.
As far as funk goes, get an SWR or an Eden Combo, should be able to find somthing loud and giggable and great sounding for 800

Does anyone know anything about these two amps?

Wonder which one of these would be thet better pick or if there are any better deals out there?

Look at it this way: Unless you go for some exotic botique brand, or the really really famous brand that also has built basses like forever, then you'll pretty much get what you pay for.

Here you will find fans of almost all good amp brands, and I seriously think most of them are really good too. They are also vastly different, so you have to be the judge on what sounds good. One area where we can actually help is when it comes to road worthiness, and there I'll tell you the linky amps are not exactly top shelf.
I also think you can rarely have too much power.
