Very Cool,

Thanks for posting the vid. Do you have any info on the Ibanez that had its strings changed. Is that a Steve Vai model? I noticed the pyramid inlays and thought it might be a Jem or Universe? And I was curious if you knew what the 2 toggle switches were for?

Thanks,
Scott

floating floyds are an absolute pain.

At least the Floyds on EBMM's are flush mounted. I can change the strings in about 5 minutes.

No Jem ever had H-S-S pickups, and a Universe would have 7-strings. I'm interested, too.

Back to your regularly scheduled thread.

could be a Fernandes Sustainer. Those use a two toggle switch setup to turn the unit on and control the mode. I didn't get a good look at the neck pickup to say for sure.

hi guys,

ya, not sure as to steve's Jem..... he used to be the number 1 or number 2 guy at Ibanez UK so he's got a whole shwack of One-Banez'z . The best would be to send us; OVRDRVN; a message at YouTube OR..... PM "Monty Billocks" here, that's Steve.

thanks again for watching and for the comments.

cheers!

I'd love to see what you guys are doing. It only takes me about 5 minutes, whether it's floating or flush.

Changing strings on a floating trem (locking or non) isn't a big deal. *shrug*

that's what Steve gets to in the video and basically the reason for it.

you'd be shocked at the amount of people that don't know how to change the strings on their guitars and basses[and that don't really want to learn], hence the store's 'reasonable' fee of $10 plus strings for a restring.

Damn right !
Plus he can Do away with the block !
Change and roughly tune 1 (or 2) at a time , which also saves heaps of time at the final tuning stage !

Thought that would just be logic ??!!

Well I have a confession to make - I don't know how to 'do' the tuning posts properly on standard guitars. I would have liked OVRDRVN.com to zoom on the headstock area in their "changing a lefty Strat" video.

Okeedokee artichokee!!!

I'll get to these in reverse order I think...just cuz.....

We got better ("are getting"...I probably should say ;) ) with our close-ups....check out the www.ovrdrvn.com acoustic string change video (on youtube) for more detail on standard tuners etc.

The one-string-at-a-time method works fine IF you don't want to do anything else like clean/condition the fretboard or whatever. Plus, I'm sad to say, I've seen plenty of disasters resulting from this method (as much as the all-off method)!

If you've watched the video, then you know it's about 8 mins long and I am by no means hurrying the string change at all. If I were to guess at what I could do an all-strings-off string change from "in tune to in tune" and ready to play in.....timewise...I'd think 2 to 2.5 minutes. And that would be without scratching anything (not even the guitar!).........

I'm sure that we could schedule a "How to intonate a Floyd" video...I'll have my people talk to Pete's people....

In all seriousness...we are always interested to hear suggestions for video topics so, if there's anything technique or technical oriented that you'd like to know more about, drop us a line and we'll see what we can do, ok?

Geek time:

The guitar is a 1990 Ibanez RG760WH with a Jem7pbk neck fitted and a Fernandes FSK-401 Sustainer System installed. Bridge p/up is a Dimarzio Evo 2 and the middle is a Dimarzio FS-1.

All the best,

Steve.

Its about time that people don't assume that just because you own a guitar that you know how to maintain it. I like the accessible approach that you guys have and loved the video. Thanks Pete and Steve!
