It is always fun gigging something for the first time. The Mark has sounded great in my office. It has sounded great at practice. But I haven't taken it out yet... so I didn't really know what I had.
So I gigged the Markbass rig for the 1st time last night... the GK is in my office hiding scared. Still love my GK and there are some venues I play where it is the "only" choice but the room we played last night was built for the Mark. It was loud, it was clear, it rumbled the tops off of some of the ladies up front (well it might not have been the amp - but that's the story I'm sticking to
).
While I don't like the VLE (kept it zeroed all night) I LOVE the VPF. It nailed the sound I've been looking for. VPF+ BongoH equals some serious sizzle, especially when you use a pick. I am not a "tweaker", I perfer to set and go but
the VPF + a few small tweaks from the Bongo's 3 band were all I needed to get about any sound required.
Best part, loading it in 90 degree heat + 99% humidity at 3 in the morning was a snap (the whole rig weighs just a bit more than just my GK rack).
Still 3 things I would love to see. A mute button, line level control, and effect blend level (the one feature I loved from my SWR days). None of these took away from the quality of sound and the value of the amp/cabs. AND I would buy this same set up again.
I should know better than to doubt BP. First he said single H Bongos... then MarkBass. What's next on the list?
