For me, it would be the 1988 World Series, Dodgers vs A's. Dodgers were down & not looking good. Kirk Gibson who can barley walk at the time, is sent to pinch hit, proceeds to smack the ball over the fence, hobbles around the bases, & the Dodgers go on to beat a superior Oakland team.

Tough question...I'm a huge sports fan, so picking one memory...hmmm...

Off the top of my head, it's a three-way tie. Sorry, can't pick just one.

In no order:

1. '69 Mets - The whole crazy season
2. Scott Norwood...Wide right! (NY Giants win Super Bowl XXV) I was on my knees pushing the ball with my hands!
3. 1986 Mets NLCS vs the Astros. Every game a nail biter. From Dykstra's home run to Scott scuffing the ball.

"Greatest memory"? I'm sure I can think of 20 or more if given the chance. (Don't forget basketball, hockey, the Olympics, etc.)

Jack - That's not a sport's memory, that's in the "favorite meals of the rich and famous" thread! :p

Beach volleyball at the Olympics. Many great sporting memories to choose from there.

Thanksgiving day 1974, at my first Cowboys game, watching Clint Longley come into the Cowboys - Redskins to win the game in the last few seconds.

There were a bunch of empty seats when that took place because a lot of folks had given up on the Cowboys winning with Roger Staubach out and the rookie coming into the game in the third quarter. The fans that were there had to make up for the ones who left early. I could hardly talk the next day.

I remember that series well but can't call it one of my best sports memories since I'm an Astros fan. :(

This is too tough as I'm a fan of most sports, have had a number of championships, and have attended several highly memorable games.

Most memorable game I attended: Texas over Michigan in the 2005 Rose Bowl

Most memorable championship sports moment: Stars over Sabres for the 1999 Stanley Cup at 2am local time. In a close 2nd is Texas over USC for the 2005 National Championship.

The two best games I've ever seen were both college basketball.

The first was the Villanova-Georgetown NCAA Finals in 1985. I grew up about 20 minutes from Villanova and was rooting hard for them but figured they had no chance to win. I was a senior in college and watching the game with about 30 people, only one of whom was rooting for Georgetown. As the game went on and I kept drinking, I eventually realized that Villanova had a chance to win, but I was still genuinely shocked that they did.

The second was the Duke-Kentucky NCAA regional final in 1992 (the "Laettner game"). I went to grad school at Duke and they were going for back-to-back titles, but when the game went into OT and Sean Woods put Kentucky up by one with 2 seconds left I thought it was over. I was watching at a sports bar and the crowd reaction when Laettner hit that shot was like nothing I've ever experienced since. Elation and disbelief, all at once.

Honorable mention would be a couple of Mike Tyson fights (Buster Douglas and Holyfield I). The Douglas fight I saw about a week after it happened, but I saw the Holyfield fight on PPV at a friend's house.

If the Eagles win a Super Bowl in my lifetime, that will take over the top spot.

1998 Daytona 500...Dale Earnhardt won that race for the first time in 20 tries. Pit crews from every team were on pit road waiting to congratulate him as he drove to victory lane.

RIP, Dale. :(
