Well gang, I know we've had the Guitar Hero conversation a few times now, but I can't help bringing this up. I'm currently watching the latest episode of South Park - Guitar Queer-O....and I must say, it's painful. This should make tomorrow's lunch conversation interesting. Music, guitar playing, and guitar hero seem to be a reoccuring topic at the lunch table.

Anyway, I always take the position that if kids put half the energy they put into video games into learning a real instrument, it would be more productive. I usually end up in the minority.

Anyway, Cartman's position that playing real guitar is for old people really should help my case....:rolleyes:

FWIW, it's a funny episode. Try to catch it if you can.

What episode # is this? Wonder if I can find it on torrent...

But I agree. Guitar hero is a waste of time. I'm actually of the opinion that most video games are. Just not something I enjoy or ever do, nor can I see a point to it besides a few minutes of cheap entertainment.

I love guitar hero and rock band Guitar hero two gave us more exposure in households than anything we have ever done and we are forntunate (thank Brian) To be in both GH# and Rock Band.
\
It does grow players...once you beat the game there are many who reach for their brothers real thing and get started.

I know the Marty is a convert we helped get him into two and now they are in three and rock band also and GC bought`15,000 copies of GH3

Some of my friends are ridiculously awesome at guitar hero. I actually went to watch my buddy in a guitar hero 3 competition the other day...He borrowed some of my hippie clothes for the competition. It is really fun. It has got some of my friends interested in learning how to play too.

That's an interesting perspective, BP. Personally though I haven't seen it grow any players.

24th fret where would you notice..from behind the screen or in the field everyday talking to thousands of stores?

What I liked about guitar hero is that it was like synthetic heroin..(not that I know what that is like it just sounded right) Guitar Hero gave the player the closest adrenelin rush when everything went right that playing live in a band did. That feeling is lke the runners high and why we all are so addicted to the instrument and experience.

You master the game in about 3 weeks and then the really committed are ready for the real hing.

Understand that growing players is a numbers game. The only way that you can do it is by starting with a million and you will end up with 10,000 that stick with it.

Yeah, the last few threads we've had here on GH have kinda won me over. I still won't buy it for myself, but I can see how it might generate some interest with some young players - and anything that does that in my book is worthwhile.

My son is getting into it (he's 6). He can't handle it at full speed, band mode, but is having fun in practice. He never wanted to play my guitars before. Now he does.

I've heard of it but never tried it. Once in a blue moon I'll play my X-box but only w/ sports games. Maybe I should go to Best Buy or Circuit City and try their demos just to see what the hoopla is all about.

Great point. Although I'm still entitled to my opinion!:D

Saw the episode, it's pretty great. Very "South Park: Behind the Music"-esque.

Oh, I'll add that I've been playing for about 13 years, since I was 10, and the reason I started was to be a "guitar hero" of sorts... I really got into the early-mid-90s rock stuff at that time and wanted to rock! I remember thinking how cool it was to sing and play in a band. But what really got me addicted to guitar was actually playing myself, alone, not with a band or for a crowd.

I saw this kid in wal-mart the other day...He had to be 6 or 7. He was playing guitar hero on easy while bobbing his head and screaming the lyrics to "smells like teen spirit." He had a little speech impediment too. It was great!

He must have been humming... no one knows the lyrics to that song.
